So, with 5 years later we can confidently say, that NATO left Afghanistan before the Brits left Northern Ireland.
Fun fact, a mythical queen of Ireland died after be hit in the head with a hunk of cheese.
I first saw this episode when I was in middle school and thought it was good. I watched it again after writing my college thesis on the Troubles 10 ish years later and holy shit it was bad. I’m confident that I’m more qualified than the “experts” Spike got for the IRA.
They actually lied about the one dude being related to Michael Collins too. They just picked s dude named Collins. I did learn that Michael Fassbender is the nephew of Michael Collins.
The Irish Nationalists definitely came out of the peace process better off than the Unionists. Yeah, Northern Ireland still isn't part of the Republic, but the peace process made it a demographic inevitability. Any insurgency in which an outcome is that the insurgents are viewed as a legitimate combatant in an armed conflict rather than "bandits" or "criminals" is a win for the insurgency.
Everyone knows lebanon is the ohio of the middle east, not iraq
South Dakota is in the Midwest 😡
As a teenager this show was awesome until season 2. I can’t watch it nowadays though
Hearing the Hannibal beats Ghengis because elephants part... I just learned from another podcast that Kublai Khans army actually did face a Burmese elephant army. They did what horse archers tend to do riding away and peppering the big targets with arrows till they went mad and rampaged through there own army then running off unto the jungle.
try not to say "like, you know" challenge *hard*
Joe, this was an INSTANT click , this episode is a thing of legend here in Dublin
If i understand what this "green beret" jackass is trying to claim he wouldnt have even worn a green beret it would have been a maroon beret if he had gone to jump school or just the regular black beret if his unit didnt just wear patrol caps.
God I’m glad I’m not the only one who knows about this
There was a similar show on Animal Planet called Animal Face-Off where they would take 2 predators (lion vs tiger, crocodile vs great white shark, etc.), recreate them as “cyber beasts”, and pit them against each other. I watched that a lot as a kid.
Think I saw that from time to time. it was a thrill as a teen
With Sinn Féin's recent electoral results the IRA might come a close second in kicking the UK out :)
"Come out ye black and tans intensifies"
Oh man yesss! All I remember about this is a taliban stand in running into a portapotty to hide only for there to be a pipe bomb in the toilet. This is gonna be great
I had an online argument a few years ago with Skoti Collins, one of the IRA "weapons experts". He was a Scottish bit-part actor. He also did voice work for Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel.
So there is a book series about the Napoleonic Wars with dragons. Its called the Temeraire series, I actually kind of loved it like unironically
I laughed so damn hard at this episode.
I reject your characterization of Massachusetts as the Ohio of the northeast
Harry Potter Hates Ohio
It's easy to make fun of other people's hard work. But how else could you figure out which guerrilla-based insurgency was most effective, if not to have both sides show up to a car park for a conventional, clearly-defined battle. If you have any better ideas, I'm waiting to hear them.
The title of this podcast alone makes my patreon subsription worth it
The SWAT vs. GSG9 episode is still a special level of deluded. Also cheap, I'd call it showrunner budget management for the Zombie vs Vampires episode https://youtu.be/PzBaCgDd6IA
I’ve been making fun of this specific episode for years. No one ever knew what I was taking about. I finally feel seen
GOD THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD. Now do the Vietcong/SS episode
“What essential oils go best with a flamethrower?” is a vitally important question.
What episode did you read the Napoleon T-Rex book?

I watched every episode in my teens when this came out. I only remember the Ninja vs. Spartan episode because the ninja "expert" was real pissy that the ninja lost.
You gotta try the video game version. They made a fighting game with surprisingly solid gameplay.
Spetsnaz vs. Green Berets plays on repeat in my mind palace
Its why Im a slavboo
Fuckkkkk forgot about this show, my childhood consisted of watching deadliest warrior and 1,000 ways to die with my siblings, you should totally review the pirate vs the ninja
