Loving this episode. I haven't finished it yet, but if you don't get to this one thing you may want to cover is just how insanely amazingly effective the Japanese torpedoes of WW2 at the same time were. A series on the Naval Battles of Guadalcanal would highlight this, as the Japanese used night fighting tactics and their torpedoes to just trounce the US navy several times..... even though the US ships had a decided technical advantage in Radar. The supreme irony is that in the series of battles, every time the US commander knew how to use radar, the US won, and then after each of those battles the commander got replaced with some new Admiral fresh off the beach who didn't know squat about Radar. Most of those Admirals also didn't believe the Japanese could build a good torpedo, either. A lot of Americans died pointlessly because of this.
For the record I can confirm almost all of us submariners are strange
Yay Liam and also this is my favourite awful US naval screw up, those torpedoes were so terrible for so long.
Also a deck gun round cost one hell of a lot less than a torpedo.
