Joe, Nate, and Tom finally have the gaul to be frank about a few things as we bring you the first part in a new series on the French Wars of Religion, setting the scene for centuries of acrimony, the anointed bodies of kings and the scouring of the basest villains. A landscape of inequalities, of Hugues, and Huguenots.
This series is done thanks to research done by our friend and colleague Dr. Joel Butler.

I get those AI tai chi ads in games, and they are so annoying! My FB and Instagram feeds are book retailers, AI ADHD content and shitty AI movie shorts. The ADHD content is as annoying as the tai chi stuff.
"Dunking the royal infant" sounds like a euphemism for taking an absolute growler of a shit. Brings a whole new meaning to "taking a duke".
I can't not bring up the staunchly Midwestern pronunciation of Kay-row (Cairo) in southern Illinois.
😂the gaul to be frank🤣
Stationed at Clovis, NM. I think it tops in the top five worst duty stations in the US military
It's Ver-sales Kentucky
That cold water story is interesting. My Polish grandmother would always have a cup of hot water straight from the kettle in the morning before breakfast possibly for some similar kind of Eastern European remedy
A bunch of Huguenots ended up in the Dutch Cape and formed the descendants of the modern-day Afrikaner!
Smh, clearly a long duck is a swan, the giraffe of birds.
I think I read somewhere that child marriage like that was actually not normal among commoners in Europe. With women getting married usually in their twenties. If so, then the whole child marriage was also super weird to everyone else at the time.
San Antonio is MUCH worse than anywhere in KY. Deployment was somehow a breath of fresh air.
King Mystslav reporting live from the cuckmand center
That intro music never fails to psychically bludgeon me
Limey homo in a NewYawk accent is never going to leave me.
So hyped for this series!
Thinking of Henry VIII of England... his first divorce might have gone so much smoother if people had been able to watch on Catherine of Aragon's first wedding night...
LOUISVILLE MENTIONED!!
We have a Greenwich road the we’re required to call green-which
It's been a while since we had a part series
Do not listen to Loins led by donkey and drink with a glass of nice cold iced water
Release the François the First files
Bowie did meet Sinatra, when he was working on "Station to Station." It's why "Wild is the Wind" ended up on that album.
I have definitely drank too cold water on a very hot Texas day. I cramped so hard I thought I was dying
I’m sorry did he say 7 episodes, talk about Soviet afghan flash backs
I love a Nate episode
Omg getting Versailles, KY getting called out made my day. I went to college just outside Versailles in Midway. And i can confirm ya get weird looks if you say “vair sigh” lol
As a Franco-American we always called him Frankie Big Nose.
Every time some insane terminally online person says that they're a monarchist and that we should have kings and shit, I think of this sort of madness and abuse that it inevitably leads to.
On the subject of Francois dying from drinking ice water: this is actually a hazard of heat stroke. When the body is distressed, a sudden plunge in temperature inside the throat triggers the epiglottis to seal the trachea as an instinctive defense against drowning. This is known as "dry drowning," and actually happens to people who fall overboard in arctic water. For thus reason, when someone is afflicted with heat exposure, you should bot give them any water to drink until you cool their body, and even then, give them room-temperature water.
Wow, an actual medical answer to the cold drink bit. It probably didn't help Francois that he was probably also wearing a fuck ton of extra fancy clothes that French nobles were expected to always have on while he was playing tennis in the Parisian summer heat.
Knocked loose rules
Came for tragic wars, stayed for a #NateStory
François Premier was the original “oh fuck I just became important at work”
Jeremy Irons played a Borgia, not a Medici. Also he guest starred in an episode of Law & Order SVU as a psychiatrist who thought he might have had sex with his daughter while blackout drunk (he didn't, it was his daughter's best friend).
*knockoff bart simpson t shirt voice * I was there dude… it sucked!
So this series will tie Soviet-Afghan War as the longest LLBD series?
I’m sure this all will make as much sense as the war of the roses!
SEVEN PARTS???
Oh, this is something I am glad you guys are doing this. I am liking you guys are doing more early modern era, as i find it more interesting to read then the middle ages
Bonus series, you spoil us, Ambassador.
Did he say 7 parts?
They're calling it the most Read Directly From a Script episode of all time! It's crazy, one second you're cracking jokes, talking a mile a minute, so happy and excited, then the next you sound like a fifth grader who has to read something in front of the class.
That's the Natetent way.
French royalty has deep affinity for hunting. That is why the louvre got that there Bass Pro Shop out front
Underrated comment 🤣
Oh by vagraries of fate the holy ampoule, long believed to have been lost in the revolution ended up in the nevada desert, adapted to be a the bowl for an artbong. When a distant heir of Arnulf named Fat Lou ripped from it, nude in a glamping temazcal, the crown of france was in secret restored. 6 texas hapsburgs prompty had a fit for no reason they could intel
Yaoi paddle mention was NOT on my bingo card....
Yaoi story of french catholic and hugeont when?
I found myself humming an unfamiliar song the other day, and I couldn't place it. Then I realized it was one of the Find A Way to Hate It songs from a recent TF outro. It's good stuff, Nate. Gonna buy the album
Oh my God oh my God oh my God…. This is my hyper specific interest area. We are talking mega nerd territory. Talk about a story with a truly epic defenestration.
Oooh I wonder if we’ll get the creation story of French Florida and some jokes on what’s the 1500s equivalent of taking a massive amount of bath salts and eating someone face on the highway. So excited for what this series has in store.
"French florida" So Louisiana
Also take a shot everytime a guy is mentioned named Louis, Charles, or henry
I am dead now
Fuck yeah more Natetent
Huguenots Represent! Gotta love having part of your family flee to Ireland to escape persecution.
Mine escaped to England. They should have chosen better.
