The Spanish see the crowning of a French child king as an opportunity to invade. They deploy the Army of Flanders. Once mighty, but now reduced to being commanded by idiots and one man who was so old and sick that he had to be dragged around the battlefield in a chair.

Nate saying "TA50" perked up my vet brain like a sleeper cell agent.
I was half-expecting Joe to pronounce it "Cardinal Ricky Lou"
General Lennart Torstensson had so much gout that he had to be carried around on a stretcher. He was still one of Swedens greatest generals during the 30 years war and the invasion of Denmark in the 1650s.
And most of Swedens interesting military history is from the 17th century so maybe you should look at it. -Lützen 1632. -Jankov -Breitenfeld -The Wall of the Great Belt, invading Denmark over the Ice. -The Polish-Swedish war 1650-1655ish. The reason why Sweden is in the polish national anthem together with germany and russia. Also the war where Prussia became independent.
This might be the first time Sweden has been mentioned since your series about Napoleons invasion of Russia.
"Schlacht" in German is literally just the word for battle and while it does come from the same word stem as "schlachten" (slaughtering), it doesn't necessarily have that connotation here.
This isn’t related but I’m curious if you guys will cover the darfur genocide
That's a pretty good 9/11 joke.
Grew up in the 505 for 25 years. A certain nostalgia aside, leaving was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Live in Albuquerque (ABQ) and I love it, however boy does it have its problems. The unofficial term for us is Burquenos. The food here does absolutely slap and the music scene is pretty rad
Glad a burqueño showed up to reply. I’m from Hatch! (Lived in Las Cruces most of my life tho).
Joe’s mailman standing outside going “pspsps” with dutch candies
"I wish to die with the Italian gentlemen." Imagine being an Italian musketeer and being simultaneously flattered and horrified. I bet it was all cap and the coward knew they were the guys with the best chance of exfil.
Lions Led By Joint Custody Battle could be a new bit now that Nate and Tom have their visitation days with Joe.
fuck yeah i knew there'd be a burqueño or two on here... hatch green and chimayo red or fuckin die trying
I lived in and am ride or die for Albuquerque NM and Liverpool England!!!!! I now live in upstate NY so no wonder why I miss them so much
new meta just dropped: L-shaped advertisements
To paraphrase Dave Attell, “you know what’s a fun thing to do in Albuquerque? Get the fuck out”
First off, the demonym for people from Albuquerque is Burqueño, second, y'all aren't wrong about it being kind of a shithole but it's a charming shithole. Also, fuck Santa Fe BURQUE 505 4 LYFE
My phone died while I was looking for the hotel I'd booked in ABQ before a flight. Bought a car adapter for the company car I was in, watched firefighters administer narcan to a guy in his car at a nearby pump while charging my phone.
Well this is a treat! Just finished my term paper on the 30 Years’ War
Nothing like eating my breakfast and hearing “pus bubble out of his asshole constantly.” Thanks Joe.
The demonym for people from Albuquerque is Albanian The more you know
I’m picturing the Army of Flanders as an army of Ned Flanders.
Nothing but Neds greeting the opposing army in unison.
That whole scenario at 50:30 just sounds like if Dune took place in the Midwest.
This battle famously killed Viggo Mortenson
What does Nate mean by "action figure collecting" at 34:30?
Irish werewolves are known as faoladh, guardians of women & children. Not monsters.
I wonder how many times Nate resisted telling the milk in the ass story.
I felt the "jerk ass, fucking prick". So many times Ive uttered nearly the same in the exact same tone. I loath district managers and that "district manager" attitude.
A drowning "revival" method was blowing smoke into someone's ass....
Joes admirable attempt at pronunciation backfiring because Melo is Portuguese and only spelled with a single L anyway
Denizens of Albuquerque are known as burqueños, after the abbreviated form of Albuquerque, "burque".
The mother sauce is espagnole @01:08:58
I saw Man With The Iron Fists, it was fun.
Oooh, this is the battle which that one famous Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau painting is depicting, where the Spanish tercio are surrounded by corpses. That's a Warhammer-ass painting.
The movie Alatriste with Viggo Mortensen has this at the end of the movie, it's awesome.
Watch the 2006 spanish film "Alatriste" for an incredible depiction of this battle (and a great movie)
Sorry, but can't immediately listen, because MasterChef Australia has started and Food Nerdiness trumps everything for me.
MasterChef is over and already we have a Nigerian cook and a Peruvian cook. This is going to be awesome because South American and East African cuisines are badly under-represented. Don't worry, I'll keep future food nerdiness show related.
