Excellent. Obviously that means Gunbuster is on the list
Wait FMA isn't mecha though.....
patlabor 2 is so good though
Joe encountering mysterious slime at the gym like a Resident Evil protagonist in a cutscene about to run into a new monster
I'm gonna take the unpopular position that the sequel series are good. Though maybe my perspective is different watching all three of these for the first time at once. They're definitely not on the level of the original, but they're fun as self contained stories.
The pussy boxing glove was a lupin the 3rd reference. That episode had a few references to it, if im not mistaken.
Hey Joe, you sure it wasn't a Spencer Gifts that you went too with the sex toys? As someone who worked for Spencer Gifts I can tell you they are still selling the exact same invader zim shirt from when I worked there over 11 years ago. They are also still selling the EXACT same Bob Marley shirts as well.
Am I missing something about the Smiling Friends guys? Am I stupid?
I now get to heal my inner emo child with shopping sprees for my preteen kid at hot topic (she’s big on invader zim). The sex toys are a wild section, right by the clearance 😂
Tom, if you never found it then the song you’re looking for is I Wouldn’t Mind by He Is We
I think the lack of exposition really works. Naota has no idea what's going on so neither do we and when you're that young a lot of stuff doesn't make sense.
I'm pretty sure flcl falls in the genre of magical realism.
genuinely had no idea that’s what cassie was about 🤣
Maybe Iron Blood Orphans would be the most emo. I mean its got the three word name.
I was excited for the slight discussion of Flyleaf and Underoath! As a sheltered Christian young adult, I started listening to Flyleaf back when they were called Passerby. I found them on a now defunct music website. Underoath I came to a little later, but especially love both of their Zombie EPs. Them and early Norma Jean.
The playboy bunny outfit Haruko wears and the way she rides the guitar is a reference to the DaiCon III and DaiCon IV animations that Gainax did for that Osaka sci fi convention in the early 80s as college students. Basically their first and second projects as an animation studio.
I think the DVD commentary track was how I learned that.
Listening to these episodes are causing me have a mild mental break
Ergo Proxy has to be the most emo anime.
I was gonna suggest that, actually. The female lead was even designed to resemble an Evanescence album cover.
RIP to Shinichiro Sato, the drummer of the pillows.
Shout out to Judas Priest, sued by satanic-panic parents over ten years before Columbine, for "subliminal messages" encouraging teens to kill themselves. Not only did the court rule in favor of Judas Priest, but ended up making every member of the band sane and likeable, and the families of victims look absolutely insane to point where some were like, "if that was my mom, I might off myself too." It's never the music at fault, it's always the parents. (Am a parent, don't come at me)
If all it took for your kid to kill themselves or shoot up a school was listening to a song then I'm sorry, but you're a failure as a parent and as a human being How on a knife's edge must your kid be if all it takes is random happenstance at the mall, tuning in to a radio station, or a shared mixtape? Saying it takes four minutes and five seconds to ruin an otherwise perfectly faithful and disciplined child-soldier is Warhammer 40k shit. And it seems to me that that is how they saw their own children - conscripts lost to insubordination and dark magic, not children to be parented (you'll do fine, pobody's nerfect)
Who up gooping they grinch?
What if a show was produced like freestyle jazz and it worked?
