BONUS EPISODE: The 1453 Fall of Constantinople
For this week's bonus, Joe, Nate and Tom hole up, safe and sound, behind sturdy city walls to tell the story of the fall of Constantinople and discuss Byzantine great replacement theory, doing nominative determinism on your fortress, and easy 5 Minute Hacks to reassign your attackers somewhere on the lahmacun-doner meat spectrum.

I’ll skip questions from the legion a lot of times but I’m happy I listened to this one. Nate speaks from the heart.
The less the summary makes sense the more I want to listen.
Always happy to hear more tales from the Pineland Republican Guard
lions led by donkeys is die ärzte of military history podcasts
Girl, you need a shot of B-12
I’m sorry this is all I can think of when you say B-12 https://youtu.be/rPIt52BwTak?si=u1399YrODZvMBPSw
I will miss the cold opens - where else can I hear about my favorite podcasting team die comically or improbably obtain a single can of White Monster?
Agreed, I always looked forwards to the image of Joe and Tom culture being thrust upon the denizens of the ancient
Since you guys are covering the fall of Constantinople, the next series idea should be the Last Great War of Antiquity. It can be summed up as Byzantine and Sassanians going ten rounds to the end and then the Rashiduns come in with the steel chair.
Also, good to know that if we are ever see any of the podcast hosts in a bar they’ll hang out with us and we can say whatever unhinged shit we want and they’ll just sit there politely. Can’t wait to go to Belgium and find Joe and spend an hour explaining that trees aren’t real.
Per the episode on the Sack of Rome, the Wall giveth and the Wall taketh away.
How would one nay "keep it gangster dawg, keep it gangster?"
One cool thing about warfare of the time was that as the cannon folks were figuring out ballistics, the wall people were experimenting with different construction. So instead of walls being stone straight through or filled with aggregate, you'd see things like clay on the front or inside walls to help take impact. And then when the wall broke or collapsed, it would still be a physical obstacle instead of toppling more fully as masonry might. Siege warfare of the time is so neat and interesting.
I'm really relating to Nate's veteran mental health corner
I was there when context slew the Emperor ( of Constantinople)
Fun weight lifting fact Nate, I have also seen weights and workout equipment made from other creative materials. I have seen an industrial trash bag double layered and filled to a specific weight and then put in a mesh bag with a wooden broom handle twisted at the top, boom you got a new curling machine. Heavier weights? Switch to books in a mesh bag works the same. Want dumbbells? use depleted double and triple a batteries, form and tape them in to dumbbells or like a round weight you can slide onto a wooden handle. So many ways to use what is around you to work out. There is a lot of ways to also get fit like in a gym while working on a farm as well.
Tim Follin is the guy. The NES Solstice theme also hard AF, same guy
So of ya ask excellent questions for the questions from the legion. I could never come up with some of these, but the lead to some great stories.
From rectum to retina
It took me nearly 8 minutes to prove this wasn’t just a hallucination I had once, but it was worth it: https://www.reddit.com/r/NameThatSong/comments/vzg8y4/video_of_a_horse_walking_funny_to_a_fast/
Speaking of 'video game music that went way harder than it should have' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFgXGw_kXpc
I have been a courthouse defence lawyer for twenty years. I have stared into the face of so much insanity and told it things it didn’t want to hear, never mind the lizards bro, that I quite like it now. Feels comfy.
Guy at bar talking to me, fresh out of prison, asks if he can tell me something... Sure I say. I'm going to Idaho he says. Why's that, you gonna pick potatoes? I query. Nope, because it's white. Further questioning is how I discovered he was Aryan brotherhood. There's my contribution to the legion question.
Gotta be honest with you. I love this shit. Hahahahha
Kings & Generals recently did a 2hr+ video about Mehmed II. One of the commenters in that video said "He faced every single final boss in Western Christendom". Fucking accurate. Constantinople was kind of a final boss. John Hunyadi. Durad Brankovic. Skandeberg. Matthias Corvinas Wlad Tepes Skandeberg he more or less drew with. But if Skandeberg arrived when someone weaker was ruling the Ottomans, history would look a lot different.
TBF this is nobodys business but the Turks.
Thanks for the great show y'all :) I've been a listener since the Nick days, and somehow hadn't realized Tom seems to be a Souls player. Always lovely to find out some of your favorite podcasters also happen to be fans of your favorite games! Bringing up DS2 durability issues is a pretty deep cut haha
Imagine living in on a outline village near Constantinople before the battle and the ottoman picking up bins and fox that potholes
Every time Joe slams Ohio, I’m like, okay I guess I’ll go put myself in time out now. *cries in Dayton*
Go buckeye
I tried feeding the podcast into the my AI and the homunculus just [bleep] itself I didn't know silicon could do that

I thought they were going to make a joke about that one lefty youtuber who is also jacked.
It's unfortunate that LLBD doesn't do relevant intros like it used to. This episode is a perfect one to open with the Istanbul (Not Constantinople) cover by They Might be Giants.
Embracing cop thought, call that shit crossing the rubicop
That q/a of this episode is making my schizophrenic ass feel veritably Neurotypical

HORNSE!!!!!! GO HORNSE
Ah another unhinged day with my silly bois
Fuck it, that's what I need today, and they always deliver
Don't laugh at walls packed with bales of wool. They'd be great at absorbing the kinetic energy of cannon shot.
very true!!!
I fall asleep to a serious podcast about the fall of Constantinople, I wake up to find an unserious podcast about the fall of Constantinople has dropped... What the fuck, is everyone trying to remind me that I fucked up in Europa Universalis and I'm probably gonna fuckin lose Constantinople?
Should I assume the serious podcast is “The Fall of Civilisations” by Paul Cooper? 😂
The more nate talks about being opfor the more I imagine he was just making all this up and just happened to get really high being an electrical journeyman
Im so excited for this.
The greatest of all siege techniques was the Dim Mak Death Touch from Bloodsport, at least when a coked-up Belgian is demonstrating it. Also, ah, Ye Olde Hungyriene Gerald Bull.
Ah, the 1453 fall. The BIG one. Gotcha. (I do hope we get the utter clusterfuck that was the Fourth Crusade at some stage...)
