I would just say the Rebuilds are definitely important to see
FF8 is the absolute best final fantasy game. It is a big of a drug fueled frenzy after disk one, but that's where its charm comes from.
I had paused listening to let my wife catch up on watching Eva, listening to the last three episodes has built SO much hype. If I'm wearing headphones, pull a face and turn to speak to my wife, she has learnt to pre-emptively cut in "I need to watch Eva, right?"
I hope whatever media you go with next is semi-serious at least, because while Joe and Tom laughing at Dutch Gundam is funny- the conversations are much more interesting when it is about substance. If you ever divert from just robot anime, the 90s Berserk anime is like 16 episodes long.
They need to watch the video with the bloopers added in
I'm just imagining all the kids at Depression High watching angels fuck up the city going, "Snow day snow day snow day- fuck, two hour delay!?"
Oh, and the obvious answer to the "what next" question would be some Macross series. It's the third most popular mecha anime.
As for the cities being empty: Half of the population died in the millennium disaster, and that would trigger a full-on collapse and countless more deaths. And nobody wants to live in cities, because they're not sustainable in such a case. Even the best supplied cities are a week away from starvations if the trucks and trains stop coming in.
We never watched it before, and decided to do so to better enjoy this series. And sorry, but whatever you produce will be exponentially more enjoyable than Evangelion itself. We're not going to shit on the series, but we don't find it interesting, and non-gendered youth did it not age well...
Their next show MUST be Ouran Highschool Host Club.
The next-best robot show after you're done with Evangelion should definitely be Raised By Wolves - weird sci-fi about humanity's attempts to rebuild life on a distant planet following a religious war on Earth. Equal parts John Blanche, Moebius/Heavy Metal magazine, and golden age of science fiction musings about humanity and AI. And only two seasons (more's the pity)!
Toji walking into Rei's apartment and being like bitch you live like this?
I did 2 European Hyrox races during the Crossfit Open season this year, and there were many people wearing Lazar Dukic memorial tops. So crossfit killing Lazar definitely pushed people out of the Open.
Crossfit have also pivoted even more MAGA/MAHA this year, which is putting lots of people off crossfit. But for years people have said love the sport, love your box, hate HQ
It’s me, the listener that hates shoulder day and does leg day twice a week at minimum
I think the absence of parents at home for some of the kids might just be a reflection of the work culture in Japan, that essentially they're working such long hours that the kids kinda have to fend for themselves
Loved this episode! Please, consider playing or at least ingesting the story and analysis around the Playstation JRPG Xenogears for more amazing anime-ass Jungian psychology. Nate will back me up, by FAR the ‘deepest’ shit for 12-year old me. I will donate a philanthropic amount for you guys to cover this. 💜
Pour one out for Gainax, it's officially dead.
Commenting again that my fingers are crossed for some UC Gundam. 08th MS Team, War in Pocket, Origin, or maybe the compilation movies of the OG?
They did War in the Pocket already (criminally not the Christmas episode but that's Joe being Joe).
Yeah, goddamn, I never considered that Tokyo 3 was literally empty. I always thought that the lack of people just symbolically represented the isolation the characters were experiencing, not that there were literally no fucking people in this city.
The Shadow is not just the true self; it is the true self which you fear, reject, and repress. It is the traits of yourself which you have come to believe are evil, harmful, weak, or generally undesirable, or which you fear, but also the parts of yourself which you don't even realize exist because you have unconsciously pushed them down. The Shadow comes from this lack of self-acceptance, and it becomes worse the more you repress. Shinji of course has been running away from these things, from his fear of others, his loneliness, his sense of worthlessness, and trying to cope in various ways, such as by not engaging with anyone socially for years, or by getting approval from others to reinforce a positive self-image, but this is of course fails, and he is confronted by his repressed Shadow, which takes the form of The Angel, because when you have ignores these parts of you for so long, it can feel like an entirely alien presence that you can't recognize yourself in. In Jungian Psychology, you need to confront your Shadow, understand that it is you, accept it, and reintegrate it into your understanding of yourself in order to self-actualize. Shinji, if course, has been running away from this confrontation his entire life, and the only way to get him to do it is to literally trap him in a psychic prison inside of an Angel.
Aaah, Joe has finally achieved "Shinji is Literally Me" status. Congratulations!
If you are rolling with your BJJ Joe you really don't need to do leg day homie. Especially if you hitting duck unders, shots, and pulling guard. However I would suggest hitting the hip abductors. Hit your accessories so you don't pull a Kevin nash and blow a hammy just walking. Edit I should have asked how constantly you roll and do drills. That plays a huge factor also.
Wait 10 sets of squats? Why not vary and do 3 sets and then do another leg workout? I asked a guy the other day how many more sets on the incline bench. "Just 6 more sets bro". I swear some of you are camping in there or making love to the machine.
Y'all should do Pluto next. It's very good, and relatively short.
the Rebuild series is just a completely different (and much worse) show. there's no reason to sully your experience of Eva by watching it.
Agreed. It's certainly a great piece of art, and everyone who worked on it did an amazing job, but it's just an inferior Eva product.
The combination of LLBD and NGE is so iconic, I think like everyone else here I just can’t wait for this drop every month. Like it truly boosts my mood and brings me so much joy to hear Joe experience the show I love so much - not to mention Tom does such a good job at setting the stage for lead ins and references to help broaden the understanding. It’s just so fun. Y’all are the best. Thank you. ❤️❤️
The rebuilds at least have some incredible music
Follow up show, 8th MS Team. Short, beautiful animation and Gundam at its best.
Listen, I perceived Tom at the live show and you are a perfectly normal, muscular handsome man. It sucks to be complimented, but just take it lol.
Lads; for maximum ease, try an aeropress. If you have an electric kettle, i don‘t think easier decent coffee is possible.
...tastes like shit
It was around these episodes it kinda hit for me this was no longer a pure Mecha show. Really liked how they built up the school life and made us reconnect with the weird isolated classroom before the aprubt disaster of the duel, it gave me a jolt. Unrelated, but LLBR and HoA keep me going. I look forward to them every month and when I have truely terrible weeks like this one or when I get to listen to them in lighter times they are always a treat. Thanks for the content.
The downward spiral continues!
Just keeps tumbling down...
I watched these episodes (along with the remainder of the series + movie) while having a fairly bad time mentally, and boy did it hit me like a ton of bricks. I've never felt so called out by a piece of media. What the fuck.
