Joe, the movie you referenced with the sentient tire is called “Rubber”. The tire is called Robert and they deserve respect.

This series has prompted me to rewatch the series with the original english dub cause that's how I first watched it. It's interesting to see all the differences. Ritsuko and Misato come off as more friendly to each other. There's some tension as part of the job but they don't seem to be at each others throats. The job makes their relationship worse.

What people don't know about blasting gear is that you still have to workout. The people I know that have used gear were already working out harder than most people and in great shape before even starting it. I had thought about trying it in the past but realized it would be a waste because I don't hit the gym that hard. I average like 3 times a week if I'm lucky.

My gym all the cable machines are fucked. They snag or go off track. Good news though I started using free weights for chest and I am seeing a lot more gains.

Fun fact: "The Day Tokyo-3 Stood Still" was animated by Studio Ghibli. Also, Anno got his start working for Miyazaki at Ghibli animating the God Warrior scene from Nausicaä. There's a pretty funny story that Anno tells from the wrap party for Nausicaä, where Miyazaki, after a few drinks, angrily yelled something along the lines of "It's ok for the humans to perish! As long as some creature stays alive on this planet, it's no problem if humans no longer exist." Miyazaki is a misanthrope, and Anno absolutely loves it. I feel like that fits pretty well with the overall vibes of Evangelion.

The whole "writing a will" scene was evoking kamikaze pilot vibes.
