The Holy League is formed to fight off the Ottomans, resulting in a lot of guys catching flintlocks to the face, a pirate double cross, and spies in blackface.

Sometimes Turkish Hulk Hogan and Machismo Man Randy Spaniard just pop into my mind from this bit
Ringworm is a fungus, so Scabby would have been more like the Last of Us
Someone is going to be able to very, very selectively target Joe by simply spreading around full trays of off-brand energy drinks around bins in Den Haag. I'm not sure what you could put into those cans that is worse than sun-boiled out of date D-brand energy drinks, but it's an interesting delivery method...
Cervantes loses a hand in this battle if I remember correctly, giving him the nickname "El Manco de Lepanto" The question to the end is a lovely thoughtful thing. Youth of the spirit need not come without maturity; to behold the world with wonder & know the complexity of the weave
Tom not liking the Noel songs makes me like Tom a little less. Sorry, Tom.
The Vince McMahon one liner was hilarious
Grease the deck is still in the US Navy repel boarders procedure at least for subs, but we just spray afff everywhere and grab the biggest wrench we can find
I'm sorry, you have a "repel boarders" procedure? Why not "just don't get boarded"? :v
I was supposed to see Kneecap in NYC but they cancelled their tour. Luckily they refunded my tickets. Lowkey surprised they didn’t do it earlier after Sharon Osbourne was trying to have their visas revoked.
Joe speaking of how white monster hits has me bleary eyed looking at the three cans I've downed & wonder if I need some ah... peppier picker uppers.
If anyone wants to hear more about this particular battle/siege, Beyond the Breakers did a fantastic series about this whole mess
Since this episode includes the Rich Piana Memorial Wellness Corner I wanted to share that I just leaned today that Dorian Yates is "somewhat" of a holocaust denier lol.
Now the crew needs to do the Siege of Vienna...for the most obvious chance of opening with Sabaton.
i think the protaganist might have killed my ancestor
Guess all those prayers and vitamins weren't so good for him after all.
I remember the AOE2 mission. Where you build a wonder and have to protect it from the ottoman navy and landing parties
As a Volunteer EMT who operates in a very close knit rural community, my jaw hit the floor when I heard that HIPPA violation lol
If you want to branch out into Ultimate Warrior bits, then just bring up his comic book series where he A) explains the highly confusing philosophy of "Destrucity" and B) has a Christmas issue where he seemingly rapes Santa Claus & steals his costume.
I think it's meant to imply that Santa Claus spilled milk on himself during the scuffle, but he was naked and the art style was very Liefeldian so it does not lend itself well to interpretation.
The Holy League against the Ottomans, not to be confused with the other Holy Leagues against the Ottomans, or the Holy Leagues against France, or the Holy League against the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V
Holy shit
Okay, but now we have to ask the real question: would a gorilla be good at rowing if you could teach them to do it?
Making jokes about Hogans death since before he died. Fuck him.
they literally had age of empires clerics standing around healing units
“OOOOOH YEAH! MACHO-TURK IS HERE TONIGHT TO LET YOU KNOW THE KAYMAK ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP”
This Catholic is a little nervous to hear this episode 😅
If I’m not mistaken the official stance of the Catholic Church in the 1500s was that Protestants were secret Turks
All these jokes about Hulk Hogan during a naval history episode, and not one reference to Thunder in Paradise, a show where Hulk Hogan had a talking boat. And you call yourself an academic.
Joe out here finding magic potions in the trash like he's playing Dutch Earthbound
Speaking of the Ottomans, would go insane for an ep on the Siege of Szigetvár
Ringworm is actually a fungal infection not a helminth (worm) infection
That’s good to know. Two more things to be horrified by. The more you know🌈
I was going to the gym, tying my shoes, as Joe dropped the ”that doesn’t work for me Pasha”. I doubled over laughing, and now my back hurts.
The USS Buckley crew would do really well in this era.
Would you get the rights to use the EU4 soundtrack called Battle Of Lepanto? https://youtu.be/cPI2CJbQ3g0
There were lots of younger people at ADTR because they realised the paedo vehicular manslaughter bassist had been dropped from them probably.
It's rare for this show to put out an episode of a battle I recognise and get an immediate "Oh no" reaction at seeing its name.
Ok, but the thing about McGregor's pub that burnt down is that it was the one he was forced to buy by the main crime family in the area after he got in a fight with one of the members. Maybe not a super important detail but helps to highlight how much of a fucking scumbag he is.
