COME SEE US IN LONDON JUNE 22ND:

In which the casus belli of two 14th-century Italian city states going to war was, in popular consciousness at least, the theft of a town's wooden bucket. Some Germans get involved as well.

Listening to this again while visiting Bologna and I did see a fantastic painting of cheerful Modenese brigands showing off the bucket on a spear at the historical museum!
Came for the history, stayed for the dunking on Buffalo Grove. Seriously, if they got invaded by Lincoln Park, at least they'd get some culture out of it! Source: Someone who grew up there.
They added Marissa in street fighter 6 so there is an Italian on the board
“Pope just hit a stain, Paradiso”
The "Russia invading sovereign nations is good actually" guy is strangely prolific
best of both worlds, ck3 strats and racist terms i learned about from The Sopranos

Book of Wyrms is a good metal band: https://youtu.be/oKUp12OEawk?si=0SULtahMu1FUaFhC
A question from the legion: which is your (Joe, Nate and Tom) favorite member of the Russian Five?
Calcio Storico is the MMA football you're talking about. You can watch full matches on YouTube 😂 I watch like 3 or 4 matches a few years ago and I still dont know exactly how the scoring works.
I'm from CT but live in Philly (sadly) and have worked in the Historic District, and just so Nate is aware; there are two Liberty Bells. The original and then the Bi-Centennial Bell as a gift from England. The Bi-Centennial was in a shitty 70's designed brick bell tower until at least 2013 at the Independence Living History Center (gone).
I find The Concordant of Worms sounds far more like a Dark Souls Boss than a metal band
Not to pull the "umm actually" card. I have a dictator of of an english teacher in 8th grade who demanded the pronouncing of her last name thusly. Mrs. De-Modena. "De Mod-in-a. She also had us memorize a whole ritual of of introduction that takes a leaf out of certain dictatorial books. She was truely an awful woman. But yah just in case Joe or Nate or Tom sees this. Mod-in-a spoken quickly. Please dont let my childhood trauma be in vain. Cheers boyos
Please tell me Joe doesn't say the remedial US pronunciation of clique 14,000 times in this episode
Yes we have issues with crazy people, look who we have voted so far…
Man, i actually remember when Gonzaga first showed up in the Sweet Sixteen as a Dark Horse upset. And now they're a powerhouse. Amazing.
Maybe they can Popesterize someone next year.
As a Sardinian I can say that yes I am a mountain person who hoardes sheep and eats rotten cheese.
Zangief is the bisexual zangief
Leo is the first pope who was aware of and probably participated in, The Superbowl Shuffle.
Yeah, how dare you disrespect the first Irish astrononce Lord Mountbatten. The IRA, fly the W for sending the first pedo into earth orbit
My favorite Frederick II fact is how he responded to being excommunicated by getting a bunch of Muslim troops, since the pope didn’t mean shit to them. Edit: Also, Italy not being able to get its shit together as the Germans invade seems to be an aspect of Eternal Italy.
All Italians communicate via semaphore, the speaking is just for dramatic effect
I got the Gonzaga joke thank you, Joe
Fartin Poother and his 95 Feces
Yes, la "secchia rapita"! Weird Italian rivalries and where to find them.....
No the real question for Pope Leo should be is he a Homie?
I don’t think homies protect pedophiles, so I’d go with no on this one
I feel like you would all enjoy knowing that in street fighter 6 they added an italian fighter named Marisa who's the answer to the question "what if a woman had biceps bigger than your head?"
MAMA MIA
Albo mentioned on LLBD, what a day
I just assumed that the standard Italian infantry weapon was the razor sharp pizza slicer
If the medieval Italian military had technicals they would all fire pizzas like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy from the ‘90s.
The reason tomatoes were thought to be poisonous. Is that the acidity of the tomato leached out the lead from the pewter that they ate on
His Holiness is a confirmed White Sox fan so if you brought him on the show and asked him about Disco Demolition Night he might have some thoughts. He probably also believes (correctly) that Mark Buerhle should be in the Hall Of Fame
Guelph and ghibbiline are such good words.
So the tomato thing: They did think tomatoes were poisonous, because a lot of people died after eating them. The thing is, it was common for plates and bowls at the time to be made from clay mixed with lead. Normally, it wasn't an issue, but tomato juice was just acidic enough to release the lead, resulting in the person eating said tomato off of said dinnerware getting lethal levels of lead poisoning, which was mis-attributed to the tomatoes.
i would also point out tommatoes are from the nightshade family, a whole group of plants that are poisionous
Concordant of Worms is just Lord Worm's if he stopped being an English teacher in Quebec, and returned to brutal death metal.
ITS DONK TIME!!!!!
Suprised they didnt do this famous one years ago
Wow, Italian middle ages clergy I'm learning
