cries in armenian
Ball scissors guy? Dan Balzerian.
Western Armenians don’t have a different language than Eastern Armenians, we just have a slightly different dialect
Crazy that you can’t pronounce basic Armenian names or words
Hey Joe, is there an Armenian metal band that covers the genocide? I ask because there is an Irish extreme metal band called Primordial that often covers the subjugation of the Irish people by the English. I don't speak Armenian, nor do I have Armenian ancestry. But this story really speaks to me, being of partial Irish blood. So, is there an Armenian band or group that also covers the Armenian Genocide? And not System of a Down. That's cheating.
_technically_ not SOAD - the band's Daron Malakian has his own song called "Lives" that's about the genocide. Also Adana Project did a great metal cover of Gini Lic, which is an old song about the assassination of Talaat Pasha, one of the architects of the genocide
I better get a zoo crew episode about a silly little boat at the end of this series
Maybe an episode about HMS Agincourt? It was a Brazilian dreadnought battleship, built by the British, captured by the Ottomans and then hen stolen back by the British. She was famous for having more main cannon than any battleship before her or after her. 14 main guns in 7 twin turrets. The Brits nicknelamed her "A Gin Court"
Why does history have to rhyme so often? Some of the blame on Armenians near the end of the Ottoman Empire sounds too close to what I hear on the news today.
I don't understand how so many other people don't learn from history.
My brother in Jebus, how have you gone through entire animal kingdom already?
A bit of pertinent and suitably dark Jewish humor from the time period for you all: The patriarch of a large & well to do Jewish family is dying and he summons the whole mishpukha to his death bed. When they all arrive he proclaims: "Jews! Treasure and protect the Armenians!" There's a general uproar, but one voice rings out as the youngest son asks "Father, why the Armenians?" To which the father replies: "Because my son, once they're done with the Armenians, we're next."
That's such a Liam ass joke, I love it!
Knowing how every genocide has a material incentive to the people condoning it or participating it in, it kind of makes you wonder if American fascists are tanking the economy on purpose to create conditions where people would be willing to kill their neighbors
what I kind think is going on with the circus in America rn is not that there TRYING to fuck up the economy but that they dont give a shit and they're just gettin the bag
Surely this has no relevancy to another dying, increasingly nationalistic empire.
It’s an incredibly self-centred take but hearing Joe describe the more “subtle” events that preceded the actual act of genocide, like state administered disenfranchisement, institutionalised neglect and enacting laws to curtail social mobility, can all be applied to the trans community here in Britain. It’s obviously different in its scale but the comparisons are terrifying to listen to as a trans person who’s experienced several elements of state enacted control.
Oh geez. Kudos to Joe for doing this, I'm certain this is gonna suck..
Is the full series going to come out earlier on here like others that were all out at once or near enough? Or just weekly earlier episodes?
Sending all my love to Joe for this. It must be incredibly difficult and painful to tackle something so closely tied to your familial trauma. Hope he gets some well-deserved rest or even, idk, a holiday after this series. Fully locked and loaded to make some turkish nationalists’ lives miserable down in youtube. A righteous cause for this year’s Eid.
Deep breaths everybody.
Simpsons facts are a perfectly cromulent replacement for animal facts
This might be very fucked for me to suggest this but I feel at least one Arminian ball cutter has been called a butcher by his peers
Joe's last name literally means "Son of a Butcher" lmao
About to dive in. Should I assemble my own list of animal facts?
No, do Archer facts.
Buckle up. He’s always talked around this event (for obvious reasons) now he’s going for the neck.
Fucking finally. Thanks for for all the heartbreak and research, Joe.
I LOVE SKIPPING THE GENOCIDE SERIES.
I just read Watts’ book on the fall of Rome as a concept and even the Roman Christians were doing this sadistic victim-blaming shit of “your lack of piety is why you’re getting killed by an invader”. Fucking gross and pathetic in every era. Also “Khasi” is one way of saying “castration” in Arabic - possibly also Turkish, so anyone named “Khasiyan” or something similar might be descended from the slave-cutters.
Get notification: ooo, early episode! See title: Oh no. Oh God no!
I was flabbergasted
Im very surprised Joe limited himself to only 4 episodes of this. I would have expected this to be the longest series by far. Get ready to see emotions get heated
The Iran Iraq war series was supposed to be like three (if I’m remembering correctly)
Omg I thought this was an April fools "joke" because you would never do this. Well
The guest this time really needed to be whoever has wronged Joe the most
Oh boy. Doing a gencoide series is always going to be hard to listen, but I feel this one going to get a bit more personal with Joe.
Fun Animal Fact: The Jungle cat is also known as the reed cat because tall grasses are often a part of their native environment.
" I want another series ! It's been awhile . " ( looks at series title ) " OH NO GO BACK ! "
Same, I beleive he'll do it justice though.
There better be animal fun facts because this is about to get grim.
Gonna need some old crow as soon I saw the episode title.
Oh boy, I can't wait for Scooby-Doo visits The Somme.
“Hey, Scoob, is that poison gas?” “Ra, Raggy.”
Oh boy here we go
Oh my god he finally did it
He's been promising it
Boy, I sure hope we got some cute animal facts qued up
Honselty just animal facts in general. Because any cruel animal fact would be better then the cruel we are about to read and listen to
Holy shit, I saw the title pop up and stopped what I was doing immediately. Been waiting on this one for a few years, it's gonna be a sad week. Thanks for tackling this Joe, and shoutout to Scoob Scoobidobian
The Joe-times are upon us!
Lock in yall. Here we go.
Oh Joe. I hope you're proud of your telling of this.
I believe this one was a long time coming. Can't wait to learn more thanks guys.
This is going to be depressing
