The Dutch are so legendarily frugal, they kept their medieval weapons into the 17th century.
Morningstar is super useful when you're probably going to be fighting dudes in chainmail or wooden armour.
As per the Australian non-alcoholic drinks...V, Mother or Red Eye for energy drinks. Solo for slightly fizzy lemon squash, Passiona, any of the Bundaberg ginger beer alternatives like their lemon or guava.
was there even a signal fire on yolked soldier water island or was it just the incandescent glow of the 40 most sunburned dutch people to ever live?
I feel like "why did X figure go insane" is an unanswerable question and the wrong question. Being "insane" isn't a rational behavior; and I imagine Jeronimus Cornelisz had experienced in his life a massive amount of violence, systemic and random. He didn't want to be with the VoC, and pretty much no one did, so when someone reaches the end of their rope like that, in that kind of world where "normal" is getting broken upon the wheel by the State for even the suspicion of heresy (and that is, in your idea of the world, everywhere), and throw in a helping of religious fervor, you get someone willing to do and justify anything to satisfy their libidinal anger and escape from it all.

Hey now. In our defense. Dutch people have very specific tastes and tend to live in one place for quite a while. So renting a place with no floors makes sense cause we love doing things like this ourselves (also notice how flooring is quite cheap here) And the lamps, of course you have to fix that yourself. Who wants to use someone else’s lamps, we can buy our own stuff. Dutch landlord also don’t mind if you make some holes in the wall just fill them when you leave, the next renter is going to repaint the walls anyway. Making a new house your own is I believe one of the core tenants of being Dutch
25 cent sparkling water would change my life ngl
Listening to this episode while preparing for the next round of protests in Seattle on Monday. Thanks for providing a bit of levity during this awful time. :)
My junior year of high school in 1984 - I pour myself a big old glass of iced tea at my Korean friend’s house, and oh my god, this is not iced tea! I did like it though, and totally see where the Cheerio water name comes from. Haven’t had that in close to 40 years but now I have a weekend mission.
Palm trebuchet maxing is some shit I need to hear about. Fuck yeah
Jabba of Hut, so named for the river
All in all this was my least favorite loyalty quest from mass effect 2
The first Europeans in Australia were a pair of kill crazy felons and honestly not much has changed.
I remember walking home from school with my sister one day and stumbling into a bear ambling along the road a few dozen feet ahead of us. Rather than fight it, we crossed the street. Luckily the bear wasn't hungry for a pair of small children 🤣
Personally I don't see how Heronemous refusing to confess would be that frustrating. Like okay buddy I guess we'll just keep torturing you? This seems a lot worse for one of us and it's not me
You ever torture someone? Terrible for your back.
The whole eating too many seagulls, turning into a bird reminds me of this Irish medieval cryptid called a Gealt where basically someone gets PTSD and slowly turns into a bird as a result.
Oh man, Count Dante is such a blast from the past. I had one of his instructional booklets one, shit was insane
There's a Chinese orange soda called Arctic Ocean that tastes like what I imagine OG European Fanta does
There's also Taiwanese sodas Apple Sidra and Hey Song Sarsaparilla
I need a fun raid episode to wash myself after this shit.
Jeez. Were the islanders murdered or did they volunteer?
In Java? They were murdered. Fun fact, the Batavia was bringing a ton of money and soldiers to try to stop a warlord on the island from destroying the VOC outpost there.
This is the original story of the Fremantle Dockers
this just feels like true crime at this point
Hoosier Honey is such a killer nickname
I need to start a pre workout brand called seagull blood
Thank you Joe for quoting Stringer Bell. For those of you who missed it, "Is you taking notes on criminal fucking conspiracy?"
Count Dante also got in trouble for having a racially integrated dojo.
From what I understand, being broken on the wheel is basically having your limbs broken and woven into a wagon wheel. Maybe that's just sparkling wheel based torture tho.
Ah so the Dutchman with water becomes capable of ingenious military engineering projects with tropical plants.
“It’s like if Immortan Joe is Dutch” I mean… he and Geert Wilders seem to share hairdresser…
Wow, 24 min and we hit nightmare fuel. We need more animal facts.
I was thinking the same thing I felt like a tad like some Rwandan genocide there
