Bug Boy Summer: Game Overview!
Hey folks! hope you're having a happy labor day weekend. I can't believe Summer is almost over. even though Im a summer girly, fall is New England's best season; so I anticipate still getting to spend lots of time outdoors. but in the meantime, lots of progress is being made on Bug Boy Summer. Now that most of the art is done, Here's a quick overview of how the game will work!

As you can see the resolution of this game is mobile friendly, I'm continuing to make as many of my future games mobile compatible, so nearly all of the controls are simply clicking and dragging. This is meant to be a relaxing, zen-like game with some incremental elements.
The big brown area is the play space, where there will be a constant scrolling background of foliage and bugs. By tapping and dragging the trap bubbles on the left side of the screen, you can drag in traps to the play space.
if a bug's body walks or flies into the trap, they are safe for you to pick up!
Picking up a bug transforms them into a bug boy, a cute magical creature you can keep in the jar below. (I'm using some placeholders from my cupid game, as you can see hahaha) Alternatively, you can set them free at any time by dragging them to the free up button
Depending on what bug boys you keep in your jar, a generator on the left will create a unique power marble. Now here's where things get interesting...
Power Marbles
each power marble has unique properties, and you can drag them onto nearly everything in the UI to modify its properties. For example...
combining a marble with the jar may allow you to store more bug boys
combining a marble with the traps may increase their size, or make them regenerate more quickly
combining a marble with your fragrance may attract different kinds of bugs into the play space
Not all power marbles have positive effects, however! its going to take a little trial and error and experimentation. I'll also make sure to keep the comments open so players can share tips and tricks with eachother :D
PS: There will be no spiders in the game! hopefully this means arachnophobes can enjoy a bug boy summer as well.
I'm excited to start sharing progress as I load these assets in and get things moving. I have a special announcement tomorrow that is unrelated to the game, but after that, expect frequent updates about BBS as I progress!
That's all for today folks. Here's your sign-off joke!
Q: If you find a bug on the moon, what should you call it?
A: A luna-tick!

terry no.... ticks arent bugs theyre arachnids... ToT the game looks great so far, can't wait to try it! Also very excited for the New England Fall weather :) Good speed!
here in the united states at least, "bug" is a general term for a lot of land-based invertebrates. It would include worms, slugs, snails, arthropods, isopods, caterpillars, insects, arachnids, beetles, bees, flies, etc. so ticks are absolutely considered bugs here, although I'm not sure about other regions.
So cute!! I love the power marbles so much. I’ll definitely have fun making a bunch of combinations! So exciting!!
so much fun!!!

Bug boy summer/fall is SO in! I’m super excited for this one
