KoD Preview: Combat
We've been dancing around the combat system for a little while now, hinting at how it's different, so this week it's finally time to explain what role direct combat will play in Kingdom of Deception.
Though warfare will play a major role in the game, we wanted to place more of the focus on the broader aspects. Therefore, we didn't want to have a conventional combat system. The end result will still include fights at key moments, but there won't be a major gameplay aspect of grinding levels. We want the fights to have a little more weight, whether they're stressing Sabia's difficulties in the camp or key duels in the plot.
Accordingly, the system is set up for one-on-one fights. It focuses more on strategy than tactics, though we hope to increase the tactical aspects as the game goes on.
Your main tool in battles is your selection of skills. At the beginning, you have nothing but "Attack" and "Defend" - but the core idea of the system is that these options will keep expanding. Each item of equipment Sabia is wearing has the potential to grant her a new skill or replace an old one.
For example, if Sabia is using a magical sword, she might have two attack skills, one that is stonger against magic-using opponents. But both might be inferior to the brute force of a different sword, so you'll choose your equipment situationally. Armor and accessories can grant skills too, though they'd tend to be different kinds.
You'll see the beginnings of this system in the first release, but this is one of the pieces of the game we hope to build on over time.
Back next week with another update!

R.I.P. Update? :c
I think so
Nothing yet :/
Expect an update this weekend!
I wish that i wasn't a lazy college student/future bum so i could pledge and become a patron... oh well i'm still excited even if i can't see it.
Same, used to be a patron and then had to buy books :c
"Before too long" Oh snap, demo soon?! :D
Don't get TOO excited, our official statement is still that it's difficult to give an exact date. But we're feeling positive, as more and more of the first version is in a finalized state with each build.
New update is Patron only? That must mean it's REALLY fun and special. Eeeeee. ... What? Can't a man be excited for lewdness, even if he can't see it?
You'll be able to see the outfits before too long, though!
New update is for patrons only.... :/
So I guess the new update is for patreons only, aww man :(
Hello, I just found you and decided to 'start in small' with just 1$. I was curious, how many month will it roughly be until we can see the first gameplay footage (or try it out ourselfes) of the new game? Or is that only for higher tier patrons?
Hi, thanks for supporting us! It's difficult to give an exact estimate, but we're working on finishing up pieces now, so we hope to get you a large playable chunk of game in decent time. Higher tier patrons will get the first chance to try the game, but everyone will get to play it after that!
Something fun and special in the works? Eeeeeee. *Jumps around like a little girl.*
Are week updates now on Monday? No~~
There's not always a specific day - in this case, we have something fun in the works. So look forward to it!
So it'll be something of the sorts of what Ariadne did for the combat system? Also, will the fights, since they'll be significant for the plot or certain events, will be lenghty? And also, what about game over or Sabia and her friends getting abused if she/they lose?
Fights arent long for what we have in the first release. As for game over after a loss, as we said earlier, it can happen in certain quests down the road, but it will be contextualised.
But can we fuck the magical sword? Just kidding. It sounds like a potentially fun system.
We need this feature
I know that this is off-topic quetion but can we fuck with Monsters? Like in Noxian Nights for taming them to fight for you?
Also is there Beastiality in there? Cuz i fucking loved Horse Stable scenes in NN!
Does losing a battle lead to a Game Over screen (maybe with related ero-artwork) or will it have consequence?
Depends on the context, so some do others do not.We really dont have grind and monster encounters like in rpg maker, so grind is very minimal or it is just a quest you need to do, so depending on that it can have different outcomes.
Sounds neat. Question: Are all the battle skills combat and magic oriented or will there be any... sexually related skills?
No sex-related skills in the first update, and they wouldn't be useful in normal combat based on the world we've set up. But there could be a place for this too, in certain situations. It's something we'll think about as we get feedback.
