Convolution does way more than you think (and a free app to prove it)
Hi!
As WaveShaper tier members on Patreon know, my book updates are often what would otherwise be a Patreon-exclusive video, and this month's update started like that. Convolution is a technology normally associated with reverb, and this month's new chapter was (and will be) all about pretty wild non-reverb uses for convolution.
The thing is, as I started writing it, while I felt the book is a good place to summarize all the tips, the topic was asking for more.
Not just a video, but also a companion app that would really let you dig into these ideas, and because I'm not familiar with an app that lets you sculpt impulse responses, I figured I'd make one (well, you know, with AI coding it because I don't know how to create a convolution editor in BASIC).
So, here we are, introducing a synth for impulse responses!
Since I'm basically giving this month's chapter away and the vast majority of the app away too, I did want to save one little perk for WaveShapers. While you can use the app to create your own impulse responses, load up your own samples both as source audio and as impulse responses, and also run live audio through it, only WaveShapers can export the impulse response to use in their DAW with their favorite convolution plugin. So, hopefully this keeps everyone happy.

This is brilliant and I'm having a great time playing with it. +1 for a desktop and/or plugin version.
Thanks - it’s coming!
Is this a plugin that can be used in Abelton?
Not yet, but there's demand so I'm working on it
Hi Ziv. Thx for this very creative tool :-)
My pleasure!
I'm about half way through the video as I type this and really loving what I see. I can't wait to try it out after work. I'd pay good money for an AUv3 plugin version of this app for my iPad and I'm sure others would as well. If I had the iOS development know-how to make that happen, I'd offer to do it.
EDIT: Glad you like it. Already toying with the idea...
