A Synthesizer… for Synth Stands (& other 3D printable studio upgrades)
Hi!
TL;DR: Here's a link to the app: https://loopopmusic.com/loopop-synth-stand-synthesizer-and-pedal-board-generator
Background...: A few months ago I bought a 3D printer - I believe these will be commonplace in the future, and using one is a skill I wanted to have. 3D printers used to be a hassle, but they've become reliable and easy to use, and while I'd prefer to have the "world peace now" skill, I think it's a pretty awesome "superpower" in life to be able to say, "hey what if this or that object existed", and then to actually have it a few hours later.
After printing the usual fidget toys, I wanted to see if I could put it to actual use in the studio. The immediate problem I wanted to solve was cable management - specifically finding cables in a messy drawer. I finally came up with a solution I liked (check out the video) - if this solves a problem for you, the STL files are attached to this post.
Then the next problem I wanted to solve was that I could never find a perfectly comfortable and fitting synth stand - and let me be specific: there are great synth stands out there, but no one stand can fit all synths and setups. So, I started trying to learn CAD software, and getting the results I wanted just took too much effort.
So, I figured, why not just draw something and have AI figure it out, and that actually turned out much better than expected, especially with the new Fable and 5.6 Sol models. Then I started challenging them to change this and add that, and one thing led to another; a few weeks later, it has become a pretty massive app, that I'm quite happy with!
If you have a 3D printer around I hope you enjoy it, and if not, perhaps a friend that has one - I assure you, you'll make their day if you ask them to print something - just offer to pay for the filament - while it's not that expensive, these stands can use a lot of it depending on the size, and you might need a few fit tests to get things right (see the joint fit tests section in the video!)
Even though building this app took a lot of time and credits, for now, I don't feel comfortable charging for it. I tried to test it as much as I could, along with a few beta testers, but I'm sure there are going to be issues that need to be ironed out, so for now and for the near future it's going to be free, but once things settle down I'll explore a few Patreon-only goodies... (let me know if you have any feature requests!) because these long expeditions would not be possible without your support.
Thanks, and I hope you enjoy it!

Hi thanks for such an excellent tool, I've just built my first modular synthesiser, and this came at perfect timing for me. Do you have a suggestion/bug fix email that I can email some suggestions to?
Yes of course you can dm me here or email ziv@loopopmusic.com
Great idea! Beautifully implemented! Bravo! But there's a small bug I found: I can't upload the image of the device's top panel for my synthesizer. Upload error. I've tried different formats, sizes, and compression. Nothing helps.
Thanks so much! You know I just checked it and it worked fine - perhaps it's the browser or OS? Feel free to email me the image at ziv@loopopmusic.com . Did you see that you can just paste the image in as well? Just take a screenshot and hit paste. Let me know what the device is BTW, I'll just add it ;)
Well done! 🚀 Now to buy a new 3D printer lol
Thanks and enjoy!
Wow! Something AI doesn't ruin!
A skilled designer need music records, editing and effect design.
Again, this is amazing and I’ve already created and printed a couple of stands. Thank you so much for doing this cause I am horrible at CAD.
My pleasure - would love to see what you made in the community if you're up for sharing!
where can we find the app? even as supporting patreon, no clue of where to find it?
My bad I should have made it clearer - here you go! https://loopopmusic.com/loopop-synth-stand-synthesizer-and-pedal-board-generator
I haven't gone down the 3D printer path yet, and you are making it harder to resist! Thanks for putting together that application and all of those examples. Have you thought about putting together a custom setup for filming your videos?
My pleasure, and thanks for your longtime support here! I don't think I'll make a setup for my videos, I like to focus on one thing at a time and a shot from up top, but in "real life" I almost never use a synth without a stand...
I have a friend with a printer who is now busting to build me something :). That said, laptop stands and velcro tape has served me pretty well over the years for positioning desktop stuff how I need it. One disadvantage I see with printed stands is the limited choice of angle and height adjustment once its printed. Any how, great video as usual!
Thanks and I am already pondering various options for angle adjustments…
This is really fantastic! I recently bought a 3D printer and would love to print some custom stands. Incidentally, I’m currently putting the touches on a music technology related application myself that I built with Claude Fable 5. I don’t feel comfortable charging for and having to support a program that I didn’t code myself, but I’m looking forward to releasing it for free on GitHub within the next few weeks.
This will be a big help to many - great work! I was trying to design something similar using only a single triangle shape and then modify the parameters - height, width, depth to make various stands - you blew my tinkering right out of the water - LOL! You took parametric modeling to the limit here - plus adding the file name to the 3D print is genius. I am a guitarist have been dabbling in sequencing/synths and organizing those small boxes on the desktop has been a real challenge. I look forward to redoing my pedal board with your app. One thing I am sure you ran across is the slipping problem with PLA on hard/smooth table tops. I have been adding some "stick on" rubber bumpers (sort of a no brainer.) You can make some bumpers with softer 3D printer materials like TPU but they are not "grippy" as I like - so things will still slide when you start pressing buttons. Thanks again for the hard work! HB
Glad you like it, and thanks for your longtime support here. And D'oh! I wish I had mentioned the rubber feet in the video :/ I'll note that for the follow-up video
I have 4 3D printers,1 includes a CNC & laser (3 in 1) & a laser cutter-engraver. I started learning 3D design and 3D printing about seven years ago and my advice is if you can get a 3D printer because the amount of times it has saved me by 3D printing brackets stands etc even parts for my wheelchair and many other things for my home and synthesizers. Thank you for the awesome videos. 👍🙏👍
My pleasure - thanks for being here!
Thanks, that’s exactly what I was waiting for... I bought some Behringer mini synth and need a way to put it all together... thanks for this.
Enjoy and thanks for your long-time support here. If you're happy with what you print please send pics and the model using the "Community Models" button in the interface!
I’ve been printing for about a year and my first project was a stand for my L-6. It took days. This tool is going to be huge for people who don’t have the time or motivation to learn CAD tools and just want to make the thing. Well done.
Thanks!
These are great - you should also check out https://homeracker.org/ for highly customizable racks & if you haven't fallen down the multiboard rabbit hole yet, check out https://multibuild.io/dashboard
Thanks - yes cool projects!
awesome!
Glad you like it and thanks for your longtime support :)
Cool the cover 3-D printed utilities and tools for music making. It’s funny how the two things are starting to have more crossover.
Amazing! I am also working on some Bracket Click System for my Euroracksystem to install it into a portable case and take it out to use it in a case for home use. Super cool what possibilities arise with modern inventions such as 3D Printers and the like!
