Korg Phase8 Review: What happens when Physical Resonators meet Synthesis?

Hi!

My last video for the NAMM rush is about Korg Berlin's Phase8. Unlike other launches, this synth has evolved in the public eye, and now I've got a final production version to explore with an actual serial number.

I was quite surprised. Korg pulled off an interesting synth with an innovative approach to extracting audio from a vibrating piece of metal, leveraging clever engineering and sequencer automation.

The resonators (the synth's "physical oscillators") are right there in front of you, with an open invitation to touch them or lay household items on them to see what happens.

That said, it's not for everyone. Its pitch and timbre range is limited, swapping out resonators is a pain, it has a loud noise floor on its quieter timbres, and it still needs effects to break out of its core sound (like most synths, I guess!).

All the details in the video, attached are the jams from it, and sample content coming for the Modulator and WaveShaper tiers soon!

All my best,

Ziv (literally physically screwing around with a synth's oscillator on a youtube channel called "Loopop"...)

I noticed the use of your H90. Did Eventide ever come out with Quad software, for those four outputs in the back?
