Whoever was knocking at his door had some patience.

Patience and persistence on top of that, to keep that same four-beat pattern going for as long as they had been. It might have only been a minute or two but it was a minute or two too long at this point.

One green eye opened up, a wall of white sunlight forcing Orin Kelly to shut it again and grip tight to the pillow above his head. Unfortunately, shutting his eyes again didn’t stop the knocking that was still ongoing. Fuck it.

A sigh left him. Ring. Current time, [relative, me].

Green came up off his hand, a little floating readout box hovering a solid foot above his head.

3:00 PM EST

…alright. Yeah, I’ll get up.

One hand waved at the green, the light folding in on itself as the ring itself winked a little brighter for a second before fading out too. It had been a little bit more active that way over the last couple weeks, if not vocal, but Orin had decided to just take that as the new normal.

Getting out of bed took a minute longer than it should have, his stupid too-comfortable mattress the softest thing he’d ever been horizontal on. Nine feet across — or somewhere in that general ballpark — it had the kind of sheets that had him wondering if thread count could actually get into the six digits.

The whole suite honestly ran into the six digits, at least just to furnish; his current living space four rooms deep with a wall of windows looking out over a chunk of midtown.

Huh. Orin stood at the windows in just his boxers, one hand scratching at his ribs. Can’t believe I forgot Trump did hotels.
