In the near-year since General Ross’s ‘death’ at the hands of Weapon X, General Nicholas J. Fury had come to appreciate a level of command that being SHIELD’s star-studded Level Seven hadn’t allotted him.
Of course, he talked a big game about it — comparing it to being the Pope, the Queen, and the President all rolled into one had been downright one of the biggest — but all that power came with even greater amounts of responsibility.
“Twenty-seven.”
And he hated that as much as he did anything else.
“I lost twenty-seven people that day.” His fist clenched at his side, the scarring beneath his eyepatch throbbing as a vein bulged too close to it. “More agents lost in fifteen minutes to this one kid than I’ve lost since I took this job. Twenty-seven families lost someone to…”
The room kept a silence he barely expected from the gathered crew; Stark himself simply staring with eyes nearly as piercing as Barton’s. “Some of them we could identify the normal way. Prints, dental, and face did the job.” The remote clicked to the next screen in that same silence with only his voice to break it. “Others we had to go off equipment serials and roster assignments, because what we recovered came off walls and floors and what was left… you’d be lucky to get enough in one place to photograph.”

How does the charge on one of the most powerful weapons in the universe, supposedly, run out so quickly? It’s always bothered me how fast the charge on a Green Lanterns ring runs out. Like, 2 big ticks for an oversized, fairly simple construct? How do the other Green Lanterns fight intergalactic threats then? Or even achieve interstellar flight? Any charge on their ring would vanish almost instantly going by how fast the ring seems to deplete here. Idk, just a weird consistency thing for me. You’d expect an incredibly powerful weapon like the ring to have corresponding levels of charge.
Charge capacity and use is based off of skill and experience. Sinestro can do things with one little bit of charge that even how Jordan would’ve needed a lot more to. It depends on the user because it’s just an approximation of how the guardians of the universe use willpower.
Of course they call him a terrorist and murderer, even though they TORTURED him for three months that caused him to lash out. This is all on you, Fury. Don’t deny it. Stark, please tell me you smell the bullshit here.
I dont even know if I can root for stark here. We are going to find out that he tests his tech on fucking orphans or something.
