To be fair, with Nintendo building in features to forever-auto-lockout your account if their software thinks you've done anything naughty, I can see why some folks are nervous. That said, if I ever get one, I'll just create a separate account just for that so it won't mess up any of my older stuff...
Unfortunately they are trying to hardback them to always needing online connection and no resale. Impossible to use in small towns or mining or logging camps
