Backlog

now, you may be wondering...

why is this absolute lunatic so obsessed with stacking 20 chapters ahead like a doomsday prepper?

well, i’ll tell you.

because the more i stockpile, the higher i can crank the perks for each of you. if i get this backlog absurd enough, even the lowest tier gets 5 chapters ahead, and the highest? 50. fifty.

That's what i wanna do.

That's my goal.

So, I'm already working on Nerd in the North and Massive Disaster while I plot Fighting Chance, Greg Vs and Life is But A Game

You're consistently the most active person I support on patreon, by a long shot. It's... actually a little concerning how much you write? I guess what I'm saying is take care of yourself too? I'm happy to stay subscribed as long as there's regular updates, but regular doesn't have to mean "an entire novel's worth of words each week".

Problem with that is any feedback would be worthless for the most part since plot is so far ahead. Also idk about others but number of chapters ahead means nothing to me since once caught up it’s same release rate as non paying. I only support an author because I want to support them. Otherwise I’ll just sub one time and leave or sub on and off. Hell even when I want to support the an author I might sub every other month. The author I have been subscribed to the longest doesn’t have different number of chapters depending on tier (extra tiers are just commissions), or extra poll fore what to release next. If you want a lot of chapters then just have a normal release rate for public, and anything you write in the meantime beyond that just share it with patreon, so the amount of advanced chapters will vary, but it’s not just same release rate but ahead. Personally I think having a single tier with a moderate price, and getting a lot of subscribers is better than lower number but more expensive. Because losing 1 person in the later case has a bigger impact. Edit: And again, not sure about others, but for me, I would rather be subscribed to an author who has zero patreon benefits, than one with different tiers. Though as long as highest tier isn’t that high in price it’s not that bad. As I am more likely to drop my subscription than upgrade to a new one that shows up. For example someone I use to sub to had 2 tiers, one $5 for 5 advanced chapters and one for $10 for 10 advanced. Then he stockpiled 10 more chapters by pushing himself, and made a new tier for $20 and 20 chapters. Dropped it then. It was the second time he did that, and the difference between $10 and $20 is significant when you think yearly. Specially since it’s same release rate, just slightly ahead. So in my mind it went from supporting an author I enjoyed to work of to an expense. As I am subbed to a few authors I want to keep total subs under a certain limit. So cutting off highest expense and supporting 3 or 4 authors (even if no patreon benefit) for the same price seemed like the better option. TL;DR: For me personally I will sub to support an author, not for the benefits. But the benefits can make it feel transactional. Don’t worry too much about stockpiling. Just have fun writing, and it will reflect in your story quality. And you will get more subs. More lower rate ones are better than that enticing highest tier perks.

I'm not increasing perk prices or anything, just giving lower tiers more bang for their buck
