Massive Disaster
About to post Chapter 11 (aka Chapter 10 to you guys)
Please make sure to comment on Masive Disaster for what you do like and what you feel about it.
It's still very early on in the story and while I am plotting more out every day, I want to write for you guys to enjoy rather than just a fully plotted out story that I don't feel the need to change too much because I'm too far ahead in the arcs and it would be too much work (like Nerd In the North)
Please comment on every chapter. Do you not like timeskips? Do you want more timeskips to get to the main plot as soon as possible? If you're still on Spacebattles or Questionable Questing, comment there.
Like, I'm serious.
This is my first Mass Effect and Celestial Forge story and I don't have several dedicated betas yet (I don't have any for this fic yet so if you want to join up, DM or comment here) so I don't know where I might slip up and make the story less appealing.
Do you want the MC to be on the Normandy? Do his own thing?
I already have his character down, but roughly 4 years before the start of the story (as we are now 1 month away from 2179), you can literally change things.
I will be holding polls here but your opinions on the chapters I post help.
Your opinions help the story as of now.
Any later, and I might start plotting too much to chage.

I say do your own thing.
I love the slow build of powers. I would like to see him become a crew member because, well, Mass Effect is about Shepard and Normandy, that is were the action is, the main story. BUT, I will hate if he becomes a background character. So, a crewmate with a slash of do your own thing.
Would love if he was on the Normandy after me1 as one of the first recruits for a engineer
Just my two cents. We have seen almost every permutation of the normandy. Maybe something like he does his own thing while prepping for the endtimes. Maybe a corporation. Just me but possibly getting hired to improve the arks that are being sent to andromeda.
I wanna read more about how CF is affecting his mind and kinda psychological thriller type? They way u make him realize he is not normal after the gala is interesting to read. Also if he gonna invent, how about iron man type armor?
Honestly, what's been throwing me the most in this series is that the main character doesn't know he has the celestial Forge. He also isn't exploring his current abilities and finding creative ways to use them in relation to all the other knowledge has been. Synergies, interesting applications for troubleshooting etc etc etc. His first ability was actually the one I liked the most everything else was just a cool accessory in my opinion. The fact that he doesn't know he has the celestial Forge in my opinion weakens the foundation of the story because he doesn't have a clear motivation to explore his skills and innovate.
Yes, he doesn't know. Because the essence of knowing takes away from the story and makes it more about the system, both for readers and the character. totally reasonable. making characters aware of celestial sheets—like the forge or grimoire—risks gutting the tension. one thing i avoid in celestial forge or grimoire stories is letting characters become aware of the system itself. why? bc it kills immersion. when a character knows they have access to something like the forge, they stop feeling like a person and start acting like a player in an rpg. instead of navigating the world’s challenges and adapting in real time, they start sitting around waiting for the system to hand them a magic wand to fix everything. this destroys tension. why stress over a problem when you can just gamble on getting the perfect solution later? even worse, it cheapens their growth. instead of using ingenuity or raw grit to solve problems, they lean on the system as a crutch. the story stops being about the character surviving the world—it becomes about the system solving the world for them. letting the system stay in the background keeps the narrative grounded. it’s like gravity for the story—unseen, but pulling everything together. the character’s victories feel earned, their struggles real, and their decisions meaningful. plus, there was no forge in 2014, not to my knowledge in 2014.
I actually really like how Zedd's power is on a slow build, the way it can be passed off as almost natural talent. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming battle arc, because I'm really interested in seeing what he can do with just what he has now. And I like Kira, I think she makes a good foil because she's willing to push back against him, she's got biotics which gives her a unique role that lets her stand on par with Zedd. The core of Mass Effect to me is the party dynamics, having a group of companions to offer their thoughts and opinions, developing relationships, exploring their backstories, etc. What I'd like to see is Zedd build up his own crew and kind of keep running roughshod into the plot. This plotline where Shepard's actions lead to trouble for Zedd is beautiful. I want more of that, and vice versa, just the two of them accidentally unintentionally causing trouble for each other. I guess whatever happens I've got faith in your writing and I'm along for the ride :)
Can't agree more I love what you're saying here.
My wishlist: 1. Focus less on romance and rom com dramedy 2. Do his own thing. He soon has access to out of this world tech why would he limit himself to one ship? 3. Why should he be limited? He will eventually be able to make mining drones, construction drones, servant drones, repair drones. He has all the pieces of being fully self sufficient. He could build a massive fuckoff space station to compete with the citadel and omega.
Yes, but as you've noticed, he doesn't know of Mass Effect as a series because fragmented memories + at that age, all I knew was John Shepard = John Halo and blue alien babes. And he's only 7 or so years away from a massive alien attack. He has yet to get any big fuckoff rolls from the 15 rolls I've prerolled ahead, so that might be an issue to build a massive fuckoff space station and the population in that amount of time to join him as well.
