Ghouls 'n Ghosts CPS2 Announcement and SSF2XJTB Public Release!
At long last, we are releasing Super Street Fighter 2X: The Tournament Battle to the general public! For those who don't know, this hack adds the network features and 8 player tournament mode from Super Street Fighter 2: The Tournament Battle to Super Street Fighter 2X.
To play this hack, please follow the instructions provided on the Github page:
https://github.com/originalgrego/ssf2xjtb
The hack can be played via a custom MAME build, available here:

The source code for this custom version of MAME can be found here:
https://github.com/originalgrego/mame/blob/master/src/mame/machine/cps2network.cpp
We are also releasing the source and patch files for our SSF2X turbo fix!
https://github.com/originalgrego/ssf2xj-turbo-fix
This modification fixes the speed disparity between levels that has plagued 2X until now! Check out the readme in the repo for more information!
With that out of the way, we are excited to announce that Ghouls 'n Ghosts will be the next CPS1 game to be ported to the CPS2! As you can see in this attached video, development is progressing smoothly. The game is already booting properly on CPS2 hardware, and there are only a few more issues with sprite drawing left to be fixed.

Just like with Final Fight Anniversary Edition, Ghouls 'n Ghosts will receive a proper Q-Sound conversion of its music and sound effects, and new overlays will be added to restore the CPS1 palette masking layering effects that were lost in the conversion.
Unlike the CPS2 port of Final Fight AE, we aren't springboarding this project off of an existing Ghouls 'n Ghosts hack. Therefore we have decided to break this project up into two phases.
Phase One will encompass a straight port of the original Ghouls 'n Ghosts to CPS2, with no other frills than the Q-Sound driver and overlay effects.
Phase Two will be an updated version featuring enhancements to the original game, with the input of our patrons!
All enhancements will be added at the discretion of Arcade Atavism, but any ideas from our patrons that are fun and fall within the technical constraints of the hardware will be seriously considered.
We already have several enhancements planned and can't wait to hear what our patrons can come up with to make this the best version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts available.
Each phase will take approximately three months, and we are already preparing for the first alpha test shortly. Don't forget to sign up to take part!

Yup! We use your cps1 fpga core and a modified sound driver to play notes with each instrument in several octaves for sampling.
How do you do the QSound music? Do you sample the YM2151 instruments or do you use a different source for the samples?
I don't know much yet about CPS2 conversions but it sounds like the Ghouls 'n Ghosts conversion will bring better sound, and stereo sound, compared to the original. That sounds great, I'm a big fan of all Ghouls/Ghosts games.
