Better Than Friday - 184
Good evening everyone, hope you're having a fine Friday.
Just shot a review of Rob Doyle's Threshold, so that'll be coming soon.
Meanwhile, here's some stuff for the weekend...
1. Book to read: Death and the Dervish by Meša Selimović
This was a recent gift from a very kind fan and one that's been highly recommended for some time.
The Bosnian author Meša Selimović's novel is in the form of a fictitious suicide note written in the age of the Ottoman Turks by a character searching for his brother who was captured by the authorities.
I believe it's meant to be a political critique of the Yugoslavian Communist government Selimović lived under.
The Red Shoes, directed by Emeric Pressburger and Michael Powell, is one of my favorite films. A beautiful nightmare. Great score as well. Very eerie - It reminds me of Kenneth Anger, who was making his first films around the same time.
The 40's really had a distinct darkness...
Compelling talk with Naval Ravikant who highly recommends Deutsch. I have The Beginning of Infinity on the shelf, been meaning to read it.
The noise birds make while flying compared to an Owl.
Jaw-dropping skill.
The Eurasian Collared Dove, the bird responsible for one of those beautiful sounds in the morning as well as that goofy hag call. On a scale of 1-10 how lame is it that I post about birds?

Honestly, more burds please. And film suggestions 💜
Birds are cool
Birds are wonderful animals and a world without them would be infinitely more lame than any patreon post about birds.
