Twilight by William Gay (Patron-Only Early Access / Ad-Free)
A morbid Southern Gothic fable of the McCarthy/O'Connor/Faulkner variety about a twisted small-town Undertaker set in the labyrinthine backwoods of 1950's Tennessee.

Another great late bloomer I’ve mentioned to you before is Gene Wolfe!
Cormac McCarthy's Child of God is the one. A book which appears to have gone under many people's radar. It's a little masterpiece, and funny as hell.
Great review Cliff. For me not reading anything Halloween-esque at the moment - Mindf*ck by Christopher Wylie, A Private Spy: the letters of John Le Carre (dipping in and out of this), The Honourable schoolboy by John Le Carre (bit too glacial for my liking at the moment) and I've just started The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy (so far so good). I had read Let the right one in and Shutter Island earlier on in October, both very entertaining, so thats probably me done for horror for this month.
