Kusamakura by Natsume Sōseki EARLY ACCESS
The best book with no plot.

I hadn't realized you haven't read Haruki Murakami. Based on how you describe this I can see how Murakami was influenced by Soseki. The dreamy feel is very prevelant which is what keeps me coming back to Murakami. His two earliest novels (although they are closer to novellas), Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973, also have a plotless structure that I was reminded of during your review. Even when he wrote his first "plot driven" book, A Wild Sheep Chase, the plot is so absurd and bizarre that it has a very Lynchian feel. I would strongly recommend checking out Murakami based on your feeling towards Kusamakura. I will be checking out Kusamakura based on my feelings towards Murakami and how similar they seem based on your review.
Thanks Cliff! This book is way better than food! Currently reading it! Great recommendation. I’ve never heard of Sōseki and now I want to read all his stuff!
halfway through this new video and I am convinced this could easily become a new favourite the second I get my hands around a copy
also... "Natsume.... not s'much"
i'm so thankful you bring up lynch, and your interpretation of how he works, how his works don't necessarily ask you to think about what the answer is to his mystery... sometimes there is no answer. sometimes, it seems to me, he is asking you, the viewer, in earnest, to think about what the thing you just experienced means. to you. that's how MJK, the singer of Tool, works as well. there's an outline, but the point is, truly, to think for yourself. come up with your own solution.
