Better Than Friday - 340

Hello everyone, how goes?

About to finish the last chapter of Michael Herr's Dispatches - quite a book. Review coming asap.
Hope ya'll are well and having a nice evening, thank you so much for your continued support.

  1. Book to read: Memoirs From Beyond the Grave by François-René de Chateaubriand (Paid Link)
Disclosure: this book's publisher, NYRB (New York Review Books) sometimes sends me free books for review.
This was a gift from my longtime viewer Seneca - What looks like an astounding autobiography of a Frenchman from an aristocratic family who describes, among other things, living through the start of the French Revolution.
You've gotta read the description of this one.
This is part 1 of 3 volumes.

  2. "Meetings With Georges Perec" from INA Archive
Great video of an exceptional author discussing his book Things: A Story of the Sixties, which was the novel that heavily inspired the book I recently reviewed, Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico, as well as his novel Life: A User's Manual.

  3. The Disappearance of Sean Flynn

The tragic story of Sean Flynn, the son of Errol Flynn, who is a character in Dispatches.
Here's the last footage of Flynn.

  4. María La O by Orquestra Siboney de Alfredo Brito
This was a track I loved in my early 20s that got stuck in my head the other day.
Took a minute to find again, glad I was able to.
Here's the version with vocals by the Lecuona Cuban Boys.

  5. Man Carrying Thing - every person who is "getting into books"
Had a laugh at this one.

I really have to read Dispatches, it sounds so good. I also recommend The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien for a great book of war stories.

Knee-jerk reaction: You are going to love it. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into that one.
