In The Penal Colony by Franz Kafka

I keep putting this off. But I did just find a used copy of "Metamorphosis and Other Stories" in which "Penal Colony" is included. In fact, I think after I finally finish "The Gay Science," I'll try and plow through Kafka's and Dostoevsky's short stories and then finish up with "Ivan Denisovich"--a veritable marathon of joyous misery--and then it's back to long, slow, mountainous treks with Nietzsche.
