For college classes I was required to buy a TI-84 calculator that was about $150, full color screen, and was basically the rolls-royce of calculators. It was total overkill and entirely used for basic math
Also @ jeremy just play into it until the players regret it. Make your character a nuisance either too ignorant or too curious that it gets the group in constant trouble
@bagofchips123 i think your clerk did that because they wanted you two to kiss (my head canon)
For the lost D20, the DM should give the party a future nat 20 to use on one roll. It'd probably be chaos when the party eventually uses it, but that's the fun!
If someone from the group with the lost nat 20 hears this, they could send a note to the DM saying "I Know What You Rolled Last Summer"
The only reason I wouldn't want someone playing an isekai character is if they were doing the version where it made the rest of the world fake like, trapped in a video game type shit. Bronze age and dimension shifting is honestly the best version of that trope
"Every candle is glow-in-the-dark" said Murph as he killed Caldwell on sight.
Shout out from a St. Paul native! Love my hometown!
With the lights out d20, I just can't believe that no one in the party ever asked if the DM found it. I would have been in the group thread asking as soon as the power was back on
Honestly, I think the Cleric was right to cast Raise Dead on the sensei. It was punishment for you roleplaying on the floor for ten minutes while the rest of the table had to watch.
Miniature horses are the only other animal recognized as being allowed to be a seeing eye animal. I was in a Goodwill in Rochester, NY and saw one for the first time and it was so cool but it honestly stunk pretty bad lol.
Fun fact about the Bronze Age character: there’s a good chance it’s basically canon and the whiny players trying to yuck their yum are wrong in their pedantry. The main setting for D&D literally has Bronze Age Egypt isekai’d into it. The whole pantheon and also humans from that time period were dimension swapped over. Obviously they might not be playing in Forgotten Realms, but there’s precedence for this, and unless they’re playing a particular dimension-locked universe, it really is a canon possibility in D&D.
Tucson or Saint Paul, everyone chime in! Personally I’m team Saint Paul. I prefer the cold to the heat, and as Jake pointed out, you have proximity to Minneapolis
This episode was queued after I relistened to all of Skaldova, so I didn’t see the full title. I was walking around getting ready for work when I suddenly heard Zac’s voice. I ran to my phone in the other room to verify and was pointlessly very proud of myself for recognizing him by voice alone. All this to say, I am very excited to see Zac visit the show again. I love to see D20 regulars visit on NADDPOD (very original, I know)
whenever a player can't make a session in my game, especially during combat, I just say that they get shunted into a pocket dimension due to some trap/shenanigans and they come back whenever the player can attend. If it's during an RP-heavy episode, they're off doing their own thing. At this point in my campaign tho, in combat, I actually sometimes let the attending players play the missing player's character since the players all have a feel for the character at this point that they know what they'd do. Also, I don't let them outright die.
I have no memory of Emily talking about a seeing eye pony, and I remember the Woman in the Wall bit
This show has gone on long enough that they will receive essentially the same submission from an earlier episode, but then also surprise you completely by having the complete opposite take this time
is this about the isekai one? cause i swear ive heard that submission before but idk if im delusional
“Every candle is glow in the dark” was a ruthless assassination of Caldwell’s character lol
That definitely feels like it was the period where it was more "Master of Cocaine Stephen King."
I understand why the Raise Dead GM didn't think of this in the moment, but there is a very easy RAW justification for the kind of response the justices suggested -- it has to be a willing soul.
Never in my life have I heard Emily reference a seeing eye pony. Hahahaha
WE WOULD REMEMBER THE PONY
What are the chances we get to see Brennan for the last week of Guest Judges
I’m a big fan of ‘Emily, as many agains as you want’ and brand new Em facts!
I let a player do isekai once and he did the whole om scared of monsters thing and then refused to adventure at all with the party or ever leave town, that campaign quickly ended for a couple of reasons but that was a big one.
Did anyone else hear gay broccoli instead of Gabe Lockley? 43:27
Raise Dead requires a willing soul, the DM could have just said no.
Justice for the Kachowculator
Hey! You used my case! In regards to the poop squid DM, we ended up firing him, not too long later and starting our own game. More specifically he kept picking on me for some reason. I called him out for it and he was as expected a huge jerk about it so I decided to leave the table to not have to deal with it anymore, and every other player said “no, screw him, we choose you” and we started our new game. The table ended up dissolving about a year later.
This is amazing, thank you for the update
Reverse-Isekai wherein a character is dropped into our reality from a world in which they previously had supernatural abilities, and must learn to adapt to everyday challenges without them? You mean Disney’s 2008 animated film Bolt?
PLEASE let this mean there is more hot boy summer content coming!!!
I would be apprehensive to play in a game with someone who is isekai'd from earth in the bronze age because I struggle to find ways that wouldn't be so focal to the narrative of the campaign or so irrelevant it may as well not be there, but I think the real problem for this for me is if most players don't want to play with a character someone else is planning and you as the DM just say yes or no and don't discuss those issues with both people then someone was always going to be upset with your decision, However spitefully targeting another player is unacceptable may the bronze age be riddled with terror
“Maybe your friend needs to stop -like- being so fun to make fun of” - Emily 😵 😂
Being made fun of for as a coward after the rolls were swapped... that's enrazement for sure
SEA PEOPLE MENTIONED
No joke I have an entire world and campaign based on the Bronze Age Near East.
Half aarakocra half Goliath. So... Big Bird.
“where’s my fucking content, murph” - siobhan thompson - me
Having played DnD outdoors by firelight during a week long power outage (Hurricane Jaun 2003), I highly recommend it.
Zac oyama jumpscare lmao
guys pleaseeee don’t send gabe to tucson
Emily talks about the seeing eye pony all the time, you guys just can’t rely on your own memory, you can only trust me
Watched a girl whiz herself in 6th grade waiting to ask if they "may" go. Let's say rules changed that year for the entire school. She did not get positive cred.
Seeing eye pony??
Master Oogway was not Dustin Hoffman - Shifu was Dustin Hoffman.
A giant Aarakokra with itty bitty wings... so good
I understand why the other players wouldn't want somebody to isekai into their fantasy world from the real world, but I think they're going about it the wrong way. If I was the DM I think I wouldn't have allowed it to begin with. It's frankly kind of selfish of the isekai player to want to break the world like that.
Is it breaking the world if the DM agrees it’s an acceptable backstory? I feel like the lore of DND doesn’t preclude shifting into a generic setting from our universe. I don’t see it as selfish myself.
Probably a miniature horse as only mini horses and dogs can be service animals!
Question for Jake, are you into the band Cake? Prolonging the Magic was my first cd.
The lost nat 20 I think should be awarded in the form of a seemingly cursed ring to one of the party members, and during an opportune moment, the DM can reveal that the lost dice was a 20. So like if a beloved NPC went down that would be a good moment for that
I bought myself a sweet fountain pen a while back that I use almost every day. I love just having a cool pen. It's awesome.
Okay but hear me out…. Goliath aarakokra flavored like an ostrich
I just dont see why you'd wanna play a real earth bronze age person in dnd. Just play a dnd world bronze age person. The guy sorta mocks players doing a half aarakocra bard-sorcerer type characters but hes also doing a version of that.
Kinda can’t believe they doxxed Gabe like that
I thought they were professionals
Dont send the DM that counted the seconds to ST Paul! We dont want him!
i didint read the full title and zac jump scared me
The Mentor from the first story could pull a Jon Snow. He died so his oath as a monk is ended and hes gonna go do other shit now leaving the order to his former apprentice
Is Enchanted a reverse isekai
The idea that Emily would have mentioned the seeing eye pony before and no one else would remember is insane they talk about horses OFTEN
Love Zac Oyama, very funny in that rookie cameo
TIL Master Shifu is a red panda.
The reveal of Zac via pony was pretty diabolical
I feel like half the cases nowadays are someone writing in something like "My DM/Player is a smug, obnoxious caricature and I'm a good person, was I wrong for doing the right thing or was the DM wrong for doing the wrong thing?" and then the discussion is just imagining how the problem person is annoying/wrong/bad outside of the case presented (not that the cases presented could really yield any kind of discussion other than that and just agreeing with the same conclusion the case writer is pointing their narrative towards)
Oh yeah the isekai question asker really wrote themselves as inherently correct when I'm *sure* the situation had more nuance than what was presented
Thank dice christ that they did not keep talking about AI data centers.... 💀
I googled ‘does Rolex make calculators’ and the top result was an article from 1997.
Dreamcatcher is one of Stephen King's worst books
Wheezing with laughter in less than a minute
This sent me down a dwarf pony breed research rabbit hole (*≧∀≦*)
Zac blowing up Caldwell’s spot with the Lightning McQueen calculator reveal had me in stitches
I was on the train trying not to burst out laughing but I still replayed it a few times
Emily!! If you see this consider getting a Jinhao x750, they're cheap (~$10) and are surprisingly good! If you want something cuter I really like my Twsbi Eco (~$40)! Lamy Safaris are also pretty nice entry level fountain pens but I prefer the former. I also recommend Platinum Carbon ink if you want black. You can also get shimmery artisan inks that would look great in the Twsbi since they have clear bodies! I like the inks from Birmingham Pen Company! Jet Pens has everything else you might want. I hope this helps you or anyone else looking into fountain pens!!
Has it been spelled rezzing instead of razzing this whole time you have to tell me
I assumed it was a play on wrongful razzing and resurrection cause of the first case 😆
Omg Tucson shout out!!! Was not expecting that 😆
Okay I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I'm 100 percent certain the submitter who mentioned mouthfeel is referring to the m&m taste mixed bag where they talked abt the crunch and satisfaction of certain m&ms? In general I think the crew does talk abt mouth stuff / food a lot so... lol. I missed zac hes such a great guest 💕
I think Murph playing an Aarakocra would just become Sam Eagle from The Muppets in a matter of minutes
Literally my first thought when they said murph could play a grounded one
Can and may are both valid grammatically.
Ugh. Always fedora hate. Not all of us who like them say m'lasldy and have neck beards lol
to me, a character from the real world who has been isekai'd into a d&d world is just as ridiculous and far out as a half goliath half aarakocra bard sorcerer druid.
was absolutely gobsmacked to hear Caldwell mention salesforce whilst I was sat at my desk at work on salesforce . I have no one to talk to about this
God I hope Zac being on this episode means they secretly recorded Mavrus Chronicles stuff to release post Skaldova c2.
okay murph did NOT introduce zac in the opening and I hadn't seen his name in the description the first time I heard his voice was SUCH A JUMPSCARE
At least in like, "default" D&D, Earth is SUPER canon, and has history with the Forgotten Realms planet, the reason it has gods from OUR world in its pantheon is, some people traveled from our world to the Forgotten Realm through portals and ships, bringing their gods with them, Elminster writes about Earth all the time, quoting the wiki page on Earth, "A number of gods of the Egyptian pantheon, as well as the Babylonian and Sumerian pantheons, of Earth traveled to Toril and formed the Mulhorandi and Untheric pantheons, respectively. A mysterious figure known as Santa Claus, considered to be the personification of a holiday on this world,[16] was in fact a deity worshiped on many worlds and was potentially an archmage" Also, the Baba Yaga. So, even if the setting is an original homebrew world, it's still super precedented, the character from the Bronze Age is owed TREMENDOUS apologies
True, and Murph's mention of Azeroth reinforces how RPG fantasy settings often really don't have a complete disconnect. Warcraft has thousands of Earth culture references & extraplanar vagabonds of some sort or another turn up constantly. TBH, the most unsettling/inhospitable thing would probably be the near-universal default assumption the Legion burned Earth.
Last week you guys pulled my tank submission and talked about tinnitus which I have and then this ep one of the cities the person is sentenced to build data centers in is my city.. NADDPODD can you see me
Nice pens do vary WILDLY in price but I think the value is in the $90-$150 range, you can get some really nice pens with beautiful materials. I have one with abalone all over that makes me really happy. But I also love using my like $40 pens, there are German and American brands that have really nice-feeling pens in those ranges, like Lamy or Conklin. Japanese pens are a staple though, and even the more affordable pens from Pilot or Sailor are really fun to write with. You gotta just decide what you want to spend before you look and then find what speaks to you in that bracket.
Like, there's two important things about the default worldbuilding around death in D&D, first that death is super reversible in many cases, secondly, it's not a final end or really mysterious, there's a very detailed afterlife system you can just break into and look at. I'm also picturing the Cleric who DOESN'T just save people they can easily save, and "because their death will provide motivation for someone" is, when it's an in-universe thought, a machiavellian and manipulative usage of the power of holding life and death in your hands, which is a cool character idea, but maybe not something a player wants to embody.
Harry Potter is the worst isekai. He goes from being shoved into a broom closet to discovering magic. And he is just a lazy little shit who barely likes magic. Those players should be forced into a world with magic but can’t learn any.
Zac saying "I was scared " as the sensei just reminds me of Pappy. He used to shoot and then just say "I got scared."
Playing dnd with my sinner friend tomorrow and im gonna play this for him
God the haunted house DM with the poop squid seems like a nightmare
He said we were playing it wrong because it could be beaten in one session and we played in it for 2 1/2 months of weekly sessions.
i will add up caldwell’s damage for free!! (i need a internship for college 🫶🏽)
Am I insane or has the counting DM case been read before, like i remember it word for word
For your information, the tallest horse ever recorded is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as 7 feet, 2.5 inches, but that's actually a little misleading because the way horse height is measured is to the tallest part of their back, if you measure from the tops of their heads, trying to eyeball it, I think this horse looks maybe 12 feet tall
Big horse
No chance Emily has mentioned the pony. Only maybe if it was a mixed bag
Not only has someone done a “reverse isekai”, it’s a whole freakin’ genre, babyyyyy!
Revival spells are typically for willing creatures only. DM in the first case could just say the NPC was at peace and didn’t wish to return.
I've listened, re-listened, then listened again to all of Naddpod... I truly do not remember the seeing-eye pony.
Are there hearing ear ponies for deaf people? I know there's a bunch of service animals that do different things but I wonder if there's any for deaf people
The way I don’t think a seeing eye horse has ever been mentioned lmao
Brennan should make some matching toy pony shoes to go with the American Girl doll shoes he makes now that he's retired from DMing
his passion is American girl doll shoes, not toy pony shoes, duh, that's why he hasn't. also I don't thing he'll have time with all the shoes (and boots) he is making
2nd grade, teacher wouldn’t even acknowledge me to be able to ask if I could go to the bathroom. Shit myself. Early 80s- mom wasn’t home. No cellphones. Dad worked offshore. Spent most of the day in poopy pants.
Excited to see what the guy that inspired but isn't affiliated with zacoyama@hotmail.com is up to.
First time Jake's question his duties. He need punishment
I'm always here for a Zac cameo! ...Hopefully he's recording something else with them too!
I mean I guess I don’t really understand why a person from the real-world Bronze Age is interesting to play? Like I don’t think I would have a problem with it but if they DONT react weird to the world what’s the point of them being a transplant you know? I agree the other players are being weird but why not just be from Theros or whatever? Or the past IN the world you’re playing in? Then you are like bought into the history of the world instead of just. Not knowing what’s going on.
I think there’s a lot more to a fish out of water than confusion and fear. There’s a heightened sense of exploration and discovery, an ultimate quest to return home or discover how you ended up in a strange place, grief at not being able to go back, relief at the literal escape to a fantasy world. Lots of angles to play off of if one were so inclined.
I didn't read the title of the episode, I was just excited the new episode was out in time for me to make dinner. I was fucking STOKED to find out Zac was the guest judge, because he started talking about the pony before they introduced him.
Never spoken once of the seeing eye pony
MORE GUESTS, NEVER ENOUGH GUESTS, 12 JUDGE D&D COURT
It would be sooo bad for audio lmaooo but it'd be a beautiful symphony of chaos
Emily has not once mentioned a seeing eye pony
Haha no, Emily, I’ve never heard of that hor-Zac Oyama??
3 weeks of dnd court in a row?! I'm in the Northern Hemisphere yet somehow it is still both Summer and Christmas today. Justice Oyama returning to the bench, no less!
They're between seasons so we're getting a court episode feast!
Needed this! And first I’ve heard Emily talk about a seeing eye pony!
no shot emily has ever mentioned the seeing eye pony
From like 8 bit book club to now—I’ve never even heard that term before 🤣
Zach Oyama?! Are we supposed to remember who Played Mavrus?! Is that what you expect from us???
Was literally shocked when Zac spoke for the first time lmao
Omg same I didn't see his name in the title and was shook lol
In the hospital for for appendicitis! Great timing murph!
