Id imagine in addition to taking the people from the planet they would strip the planet of any valuables and resources. This is basically private equity; they take over a company and exploit it for short profit until the whole business is run dry and then they liquidate it.

I know they're nostalgic for the old dbz which is great, but I loved the most recent movie simply for the fact that we finally got some good gohan focused content for the first time in decades.

Small dumb corrections on Piccolo. There was a nameless namekian that split himself essentially into a good part and an evil part. Kami was the good version, and King Piccolo was the evil part. And after Goku killed king piccolo, he spit out an egg that was heavily implied to be not his son, but a full reincarnation of himself. So in essence, this manifestation of complete evil becoming the chillest guy around is such a great character pivot for one of the biggest antagonists in the original Dragon Balll

I love the whole crew but i could legit just listen To Axford talking about stiff for an hour, shes so interesting and insightful and thoughtful.

Banjo is just unironically a good character idea.

Piccolo’s role in early DBZ movies is to absolutely wreak havoc on the villain’s minions

Jake, if you’re looking for more Skaldova ideas I recommend the books of Christopher Buehlman! Especially his books “Between Two Fires" (about a world where the forces of hell invade during the Black Death), "The Blacktongue Thief" (a fantasy novel about a world deeply scarred by an almost-apocalyptic war between humans and goblins), and its prequel, "The Daughter’s War" (about a side-character’s experience in the previously mentioned war with goblins). I also highly recommend these books to all NADDPOD fans, especially those like me who absolutely adored their previous recommendation, The Bright Sword.

Oh I loved this movie when I was a kid! I’m around the same age as you guys — in the 90s, anime was pretty rare to see anywhere unless you lived in Japan. (Or was it somewhat common already in the US at the time? I’m not from there.) The first anime I ever saw was a bootlegged VHS copy of the Broly movie in the original Japanese audio with no subs. I was maybe 7 when my older brother brought it home one day and was blown away even though we didn’t understand a single word. Was a dbz fan from then on. I remember saving up my school allowance to buy a VHS of this movie. It was one of my most treasured possessions. I’m glad it holds up and that you guys enjoyed it! I need to rewatch it now.

The intro song in the English dub isn't the Japanese intro, though the video is the same. The Japanese intro is a song called "Cha-La Head Cha-La" and everyone should listen to it because it's delightful. The intro music in the movie was, to my knowledge, and original made for the movie. It's not a normal English DBZ Intro and it's not a Japanese intro, either

Murph, it kinda sounds like you want to be Android 18. You have the opportunity to be around as much as Krillin (since you live with him), you get to keep your luscious locks, you're stronger than Krillin and not constantly getting your ass kicked, but not strong enough that you're being relied on all the time, and you aren't as close to Goku or the Z warriors as Krillin is. And I think we can all agree that we'd love to see Murph play as Android 18 in a one-shot dbz campaign.

In defense of Oolong the bride kidnapper (I swear I'm going somewhere legit with this) the American dub really screwed him over by giving him an adult voice. Oolong is like eight years old in Dragonball and while he does scare villages into giving him brides, when they finally defeat him and Goku makes him reveal the location of the girls it turns out they've just been ordering him about and working him to the bone anytime he's not out kidnapping. Basically less Epstein, more Bowser Jr.

Great mixed bag, loved it. Would be super happy to hear you guys go through all the DBZ movies. Or even just hit the Cooler, Broli, uhh... cyborg, space pirate and hell ones. To clarify a thing or two: Frieza is based on (series author) Akira Toriyama's experience with real estate agents. AKA Frieza and his family go to planets, clear them of life and then sell the property/planet. (edit: No idea to whom they sell. There is a sort of galactic union that ostensibly opposes them, but they're super weak by comparison. The armies the Frieza family uses are made up of "mutants"). Extended canon shows parties that buy empty (life sustaining) planets, and also powerful entities (Gods of Destruction) that prefer to limit life in the universe due to cosmic directive. Which is why they have quotas on blowing up planets, they have a literal cosmic boss that is handing down directives. edit: Wasn't gonna say it, but Goku DOES have brain damage, and Chichi tricked him into a relationship. So no matter how bad a husband or father he is, he's a victim.

Hate to say it, but I'm tapping out about halfway through this ep, something I don't think I've ever done before with a Mixed Bag. I'm not anticipating a positive response to this opinion, but DBZ is just so uninteresting in any way to me. Even as a kid I never understood why it was so beloved, and a very basic story recap of some DBZ thing is just... woof. To be clear, I'm aware they've done DBZ eps before, and maybe I'm just not in the right mental space to tolerate it today, but this was just tedious.

Fun fact: Canonically Goku doesn't know how babies are made. So highly doubt that its cuz he's good in the sack

Oh my god I literally just watched metal cooler, this is amazing Fun fact for the hosts, which I’m sure Caldwell already knows, Piccolo is around 9-10 years old when this movie would take place if it was Canon! Edit: Piccolo also sees Gohan more akin to his little brother, at least in most original source materials. We love the Daddy Piccolo jokes tho
