Let's talk about Gaston...

First of all I'm sorry for so long silence. As you've likely learnt from Xaljio message on my page, there were silly issues with authentication to Patreon, so I couldn't access my Patreon page for 3 days. But now that's okay, so we can continue posting the news ^^`
In just the last couple of days, we received two completely opposite comments about 'The Library Story'. First: "Hey, why is your Gaston such a bastard? He is too vile, creepy, and does a lot of nasty things! I want to play for a good Gaston!" And the second one: 鈥淚n the original cartoon, Gaston is a much worse guy than in your game. Why is he so wuss and not capable of decisive actions?
The real Gaston would have already shown Belle鈥檚 father as a crazy, after which he would force her to agree to become his wife, and then he would've deceived and entraped the Mayor and... [and further detailed and twisted plans of vicious Gaston... For a moment it even seemed that an author of this comment is that vicious Gaston himself] ":D
So we got interested about how you, the players, perceive the personality of Gaston - the character, on whose behalf, in fact, the entire gameplay goes through.
Our Gaston is what he is. And we are definitely not going to change drastically his personality (although some adjustments in future events and quests are quite possible).
But we are really interested in how you perceive him :D. Is he enough villainous? Or maybe even too much? Or perhaps you lack the possibility of "good" (or "very bad") choices when playing for Gaston? You can write your opinions in the comments below or even in the PM.

Well I picture Gaston as someone who would take extreme pleasure in bringing someone like Betsy down from her high horse by making her do degrading things. I believe he detests being looked own on (with his big ego and all :D ) , which Betsy obviously does as the Mayor's daughter. So if anything, I would appreciate him being even more mean to her , his goal should be to make her a real submissive slut who would follow all his orders without hesitation ;)

I love Gaston as he is portrayed in the game right now. Y鈥檃ll are doing a great job. (< There is the Texan coming out in me.) He is a very self-centered, entitled character because he is the town鈥檚 greatest hunter and there is no evidence to the contrary. He always gets his prey, and his woman. Whether that is through his physical prowess, dogged determination, or ham-handed trickery. I cant鈥檛 wait to see how the story lines progress (love the stealing Belle鈥檚 clothes, and punishing Becky plots). If Gaston is adjusted at all I鈥檇 like to see just a couple more dastardly decision options (just to see where they go!). Thanks for the hard work!
Oh, you described Gaston's character like a real psychologist ^^` Really impressive! Actually we plan to add into next versions of LS some wider variety in options you can choose in different quests. So Gaston can behave in different ways - good or bad, in different situations.
I think the game has a good balance between evil and good Gaston, the only area I worry about is Gaston becoming too intelligent. Gaston's a moron, but a very privileged and very persistent moron - so what he can't get through his good looks, fame, or wealth, he gets through dogged determination and good old fashioned grit. I'd rather Gaston trap Belle with a Wile E. Coyote style trap that backfires on him 100 times before it finally ensnares her rather than him successfully trick her into to becoming ensnared after researching and constructing a carefully designed trap, if that makes sense. Gaston needs to win because of all his advantages, his unwillingness to give up, and sheer dumb luck. The man is many things, but competent, intelligent, and cunning aren't any of those things.
haha, yeah, it seems it's really true... But doesn't he have to develop as time goes on? :-P
I would absolutely hate it if you made Gaston nicer for no apparent reason. However, I don't necessarily think he needs to be "meaner" either, especially considering that complaint seemed to be more about making him into a more COMPETENT character... And Gaston was always shown to be fairly incompetent, so that wouldn't make much sense. I wouldn't mind him just being a bit more mean/sadistic (that would be a welcome change), but making him more competent wouldn't really work for the gradual corruption and degradation that makes these types of games great.
haha, no we really aren't going to change Gaston's character radically in one or another way :D But actually in next versions of the game there will be more variants where Gaston can choose the way of his behavior - good or bad, in different situations. So there will be wider variety in options of the quests.
I really enjoy Gaston and the game but the only problem I have is on my end I have a habit of playing through current versions then deleting the saves and then the game so when I play the next version I have to play through it all again, I think it is a habit made from playing games that become incompatible with the previous version's save.
Yes, we know about this issue, but soon we plan to implement the system of saves between the versions (we planned to add it still in ver 0.93, but it requires a lot of additional work (programming work basically), so we had to postpone it till the future versions. But hope soon it'll be added into LS, so you'll be able to continue the game from where it was stopped in the previous version (with all parameters).
When I first played your game, I thought, "Interesting, but not enough." Then, after some time I returned and played again in the new version of the game, and I was surprised that the game had changed before our eyes. Gaston is a very interesting character. I would imitate the Gaston :D In some places :) Therefore, for me it should remain as it is now) By the way, this is one of the most memorable protagonists on Patreon) Why? I do not know) So I want to thank you for your work and for such a memorable, charismatic character)

For me, Gaston is just as perfect as he is right now. He is not too good because then he would not carry out his plans (bookstore / belle seduce etc.). He is not too evil, because then he would rather use force and, for example. simply overrunning the city with a mushroom army. Some decision-making options are already available in the quests and events, and if such are still available, I welcome this very much. Maybe he could be a little more pervert and unforgiving. I like it when he takes revenge on the people who he thinks he wronged him.

It works ok as it is right now. In my thoughts Gaston is THE Hunter. All along he hunted and caught all. Be they creatures or women. And all along it was fysical skills which were needed. So Gaston became the most fysically powerfulland impressive. Now all of a sudden, he has a new "prey". Only belle doesn't care about his fysique. She cares about the mind. So for Gaston to "catch" her, he has to hunt in a new way. And he will succeed, for he is THE Hunter.
Wow! It sounds very psychological :D It seems it's a really Gaston's main feature of character.
I like how he is now. Chaotic neutral, not good guy, but not complety asshole. I most like moment when he was stolen Belle clothes, and I have hope will be more enf theme. Maybe major daughter will visit lake?

I personally think he's perfect as he is, not too much of a white knight, and not too much of a mindless sadistic. He's very well balanced imho.
