TBX Mechanical Failures — Development Update #2
Development on TBX Mechanical Failures is continuing, and I’ve been focusing heavily on improving the visual side of the project.
Since the last update, I’ve gone back and reworked several of the models used in the repair animations. The goal was to make the scenes feel less basic and much more believable, especially when the player is actually watching a repair happen.
Some of the earlier animation models were more focused on functionality and testing, so I’ve now started refining them to better match the level of realism I want for the final release.
At the moment, I’m working on two main areas.
The first one is 4K textures.
I’m currently upgrading the visual quality of the assets used during the repair sequences so that the tools, parts and other elements look much cleaner and more detailed. I want the repair scenes to feel like a proper part of the mod rather than just a simple background animation.
The second major focus is the animation system itself.
I’m now working on dedicated animations for both repair options:
DIY Repair
This will represent the player attempting to repair the issue on their own. Since DIY repairs are faster but can fail, I want the animation to feel more improvised and hands-on, matching the idea that you are trying to solve the problem yourself on the roadside.
Roadside Assistance
This will have its own separate animation style and presentation. Roadside assistance takes significantly longer, but guarantees a successful repair, so I want the whole sequence to feel more professional and complete.
The idea is that both repair methods should visually feel different from each other, not just use the same animation with a different timer.
I’m also continuing to adjust the models, camera presentation and overall pacing of the repair sequences so that everything feels more natural in-game.
There is still a lot of work left, especially on the animation side, but the mod is slowly moving from the basic system-development stage into the visual polish stage.
The next steps are mainly focused on finishing the 4K textures, improving the DIY repair animations, building out the roadside assistance sequences and continuing to refine the overall presentation.
More progress soon. 🔧⚡🚛
