TBX Mechanical Failures — Development Update #1

I’ve spent pretty much the entire day working on TBX Mechanical Failures, and the project has already changed a lot since the first sneak peek.

The original idea was simply to add random mechanical and electrical failures to ETS2, but while working on it I started expanding the system much further. I don’t want this mod to feel like a basic random-event script where a warning appears, you press one button, and everything instantly goes back to normal.

The goal is to make every breakdown feel like an actual situation you have to deal with.

At the moment, the mod is being built around different failure types, their own effects, a dedicated interface, roadside repair systems and different ways of dealing with the problem depending on how you want to play.

A big part of the project is the repair system.

Right now, there are two different ways to deal with a breakdown.

DIY Repair

The first option is to try repairing the truck yourself.

This is the faster option and is intended for situations where you want to get back on the road as quickly as possible. However, doing the repair yourself comes with a risk.

A DIY repair is not guaranteed to succeed.

Depending on the failure, you may spend time attempting the repair only to find out that it didn’t work properly. In that case, you may have to attempt another repair or eventually call professional roadside assistance anyway.

The idea is to create an actual decision instead of always having one obvious repair button.

You can take the risk, save time and try fixing the problem yourself...

or play it safe.

Roadside Assistance

The second option is to call roadside assistance.

This will take significantly longer than attempting the repair yourself. You will have to wait for assistance to arrive and for the repair process to be completed.

However, the advantage is simple:

Roadside assistance has a 100% repair success rate.

So if you don’t want to risk wasting time on a failed DIY repair, you can call for professional help and know that the truck will be repaired properly.

The trade-off is the additional waiting time.

This means breakdowns can actually affect your delivery. If you are already running late, a long roadside repair could make the situation much worse. On the other hand, attempting a faster DIY repair could fail and cost you even more time.

That decision is exactly the kind of thing I want this mod to add to ETS2.

TBX Mechanical Failures will be available for the TSC PRO SUPPORTER 💛 tier.

More development updates, new failure types and previews will be shared as the mod continues to grow.

Thanks for supporting the project. ❤️
