Dear Patrons,

Thank you all so much for supporting my Lindybeige channel on YouTube. Today, I discovered that some of you had written to me using the Patreon messaging system, and that your messages had been sitting there unanswered, some of them for months. This is not good, and I apologise for my tardiness, but in truth, the Patreon messaging system is not the greatest (and neither is the YouTube one). Probably the best way to reach me with a quick message is via the Lindybeige Facebook group, which I check quite often, or, if the message is more involved, with attachments etc., then possibly the e-mail address shown on the front page of my website (www.LloydianAspects.co.uk - the Googlemail one).

Thanks to your patronage, I have a new camera, and a new tripod, and some new software, and may soonish be getting a new computer. Better still, there is the strong possibility that I will be able to make a series of videos about getting a suit of armour made for me. This is something that I would never have been able to afford even to dream about were it not for you. Already I am contacting armourers about this. It's all rather exciting. There is another major project in the pipeline, but I am not yet ready to announce it.

When I first set up this Patreon account, I asked people to suggest things I could do for my patrons. I am, as many people have remarked upon, rubbish at self-promotion. Some of the common patron rewards to me seem to be rather feeble. Getting to see a video a day early, for example, seems to be a bit of a cop-out. At the moment, I do not have T-shirts, American rounders hats, or shovels with my channel's logo emblazoned upon them, and am unlikely to be producing anything like that soon. I am known for not being a fan of emblazoning. I am, however, aware that I should be doing more for you special people, and am receptive to ideas. Perhaps there is video subject matter more suited to you that to others, but what might that be? You will have to tell me. Some people talk of 'behind the scenes footage', but behind my camera in my front room, there is a wall, which doesn't strike me as very interesting.

You are my patrons, and he who supports the piper has a strong say in what the next tune is likely to be.

Many thanks,

Lloyd

One of my suggestions on the facebook page was that you could always throw your potential ideas towards your fans - or your patrons. Between you vocalizing your ideas, and the ideas being passed around the channels you send them, productivity could be inspired.

Just confirming how bad the Patreon notification system is: I got no notification of this posting. None. I just logged in to check a change to the layout of the patreon page of another youtube channel I support and saw this. I got no messages or notification you posted it.

Hi Lloyd, I would be HUGELY thankful to you if you could get in touch with the proeminient billhook collector Robert Burgess, who maintains the website "A load of Old Billhooks": http://billhooks.co.uk/ I'm a (french) billhook collector myself, and this guy is an encyclopedia, with a huge collection. Billhooks are completely overlooked tools, with a tremendously rich diversity, and deep historical roots. Also it sprouted out in many different places in the world, with no known direct transmission (so it was independantly developped from similar needs). I think you would learn lots talking with him, and interviewing him and taking photos or videos of his collection, possibly demonstrations in use, would clearly be something nobody has ever done, and would be very instructive for the community. Billhooks were used in most wood-related trades, and was a basic tool of everyday life in the countryside, or even city life (to split firewood for the stove, which is much safer by "batonning" a billhook than by swinging a 4lbs axe), but also a military tool completing the axe. I think talking about it, with one of the most competent and educated person in the world on this subject, would completly fit the goal and mentality of your channel. If you decide to do so, please contact me, I sure have billhooks in my collection Mr. Burgess doesn't have, with quite interesting features. Best regards from France.

Thank you for doing what you do! I really like all you do about weapons, especially about the stuff nobody in popular culture ever talks about like e.g. slings, but I'm just happy with what you come up with. You are one of the few people on YouTube that I always watch new videos of as soon as I see them in my subscription list, so for me you are doing everything right! I'm glad that you read the stuff on Patreon, since I wouldn't have a way to reach you apart from e-mail otherwise (I neither have Google+ nor Facebook). Did you know you have a Subreddit? If not here is a link to that: https://www.reddit.com/r/lindybeige/

I've enjoyed your videos on pen and paper role playing games. Maybe you could GM a campaign, record it and put the videos up for patrons? That would probably be too much work if you don't already have a campaign and group put together, but if by chance you are already running a campaign keep us in mind.

You can make a video of the type of shirt you seem to always be wearing. Wondered if it is some kind of medieval shirt? I really like your videoes comparing movies with reality, like the sword not making a schwiiiing sound

I have made that video! The title started with "Everything you could possibly want to know about..."

I really would love to see more videos: 1) about books. Illiad video was insanely good. 2) movies reviews. Some may argue that it is not true way to learn history and you should read ancient manuscripts to do it the "right" way. But it is very interesting, entertaining and acceptable way to learn history. I showed your video about "last kingdom" to my wife and she realy liked it. Now we spend some evenings watching historic videos together and i`m excited about it. 3) there are a youtube channels that would cover swords, battle axes, fullplates and other popular stuff. But I know none that would cover for example, slings. I loved your channel for covering rare stuff, that is out of the pop-history. 4) archeology videos are really cool too. But I understand, that this kind is harder to make) 5) something like your video about Platoons. I would love to hear how people were organized to do some stuff (building a church, gathering taxes, going to war, whatever). 6) anything you have in your mind (numbers have nothing to do with my preferences)

Thanks for those ideas. I'll be doing infantry companies, and tank platoons soonish. Movies are always a pain because (a) the video takes ages to make and then (b) half the time I get hit with a copyright claim, but (c) I'm getting bolder about disputing these claims and may have some success on that front in a month or so.
