The Sacrifice of 155 Battery, Sidi Nsir 1943

The stirring tale of the gallant lads of 155 Battery RA, who in 1943 were attacked by an overwhelming force of elite German troops, and fought to the last.

I get side-tracked almost immediately into trying to summarise the whole war in the desert up to that point, with digressions within that, so it is a while before I get to the action at Sidi Nsir. As I was editing, I was cursing my former self each time he said something that meant I had to draw and animate another blinking map!

I really enjoyed this account. the men of 155th battery need VCs (and are more deserving of same than most of those awarded this honor for Rorke's Drift defense; those awards were to divert attention from a terrible defeat the day before).

As a former member of one such Generic Artillery Battery, this is an absolute nightmare situation. Yikes

Another interesting, entertaining (surprisingly) and very moving video from the "Beige One". One teeny-weeny almost irrelevant nit-pick - artillery peices are spiked, not scuttled - that fate is reserved for floaty things, like ships and subs :-)

A wonderfully researched and profoundly moving video. Thank you Lloyd.

I did pose the "why do we bother with VE day" question to myself once. I'm glad you've managed it succinctly answer it. And don't apologize for the the rants and digressions, they add depth and feeling to the vid.

Editing is certainly not your strong suit. May I give you some tips? The "Digression Alert" that comes up in the beginning is way too loud. The colors are screaming, the blinking is crazy and worse of all, I can't hear you. Same thing happens when animated planes fly by somewhere around the middle of the video. You can reduce the volumes of additional audio clips that you put over your voice. Also, the rat poster in the background is really distracting, at first I thought you've put it on the screen but later realized its on the wall. Also, it looks like a kangaroo with a large d**k. Hope this helps :)

The "rat poster", as you put it was the embalm of the "Desert Rats" (the subject of the vid).
