Parrot’s Ark: The Model 2 Deck Opens Up
The Ark keeps sailing, and one of its busiest decks just became a lot more crowded.
TeknoModel2 has taken another major step forward. What started with Daytona USA and Sega Rally has grown into a much broader Sega Model 2 emulator, with another large group of games now supported.
More of Sega Model 2 comes aboard
TeknoModel2 now emulates:
Behind Enemy Lines
Dead or Alive
Dynamite Baseball
Dynamite Baseball 97
Dynamite Cop / Dynamite Deka 2
Gunblade NY
INDY 500
Last Bronx
Over Rev
Pilot Kids
Rail Chase 2
Sega Water Ski
Sonic Championship / Sonic the Fighters
Super GT 24h
Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Striker
Zero Gunner
These join the previously supported Model 2 titles as development continues across the hardware.
As always, this means emulation support.
TeknoParrot does not provide, host or distribute games, ROMs, game data or copyrighted arcade software. Game software is not included with TeknoParrot. Users must provide their own legally obtained game data.
Model 2 keeps getting stronger
Adding more games also continues to expose parts of the hardware that need more work.
TeknoModel2 received another round of audio improvements, including a missing-sound fix tested with Virtua Cop 2 that may also improve audio in other Model 2 games.
Per-game volume adjustment has now been added to most supported titles, allowing output volume and boost to be configured individually.
Controls have also been corrected in several titles still undergoing development, and the newer Ark batch received a fix for incorrectly mapped Y axes.
Outputs are now properly designated as Windows Outputs throughout the emulator integration.
Daytona USA
One of the Ark's original Model 2 passengers received an important correction.
Daytona USA game speed has been fixed, bringing its emulated behavior back where it belongs.
The roads keep changing too
The work has not been limited to Model 2.
Cart Fury
Steering has been reworked for smoother range and centering.
Transmission behavior has also been improved:
Gears return to neutral when released
Sequential shifting is supported
Dedicated shift up and shift down bindings have been added
A diagnostics input filtering problem has been fixed
California Speed
California Speed now has CPU overclock and renderer enhancement options.
Fanatec wheel dropouts have also been fixed.
Racing Jam and TeknoHornet
Racing Jam and Racing Jam 2 received a substantial control and performance pass.
RTSS related crashes have been fixed, along with jitter and stuttering problems.
CPU overhead has been reduced, and gear handling has been improved with better sequential shifting support.
GQ cabinet selection has also been added, together with corrected shifting mappings for the different configurations.
Xtrial Racing
Xtrial Racing now has force feedback support.
The handbrake has also been fixed.
Area 51: Site 4 and TeknoAGX
The Atari MediaGX-based Area 51: Site 4 received another round of work through TeknoAGX.
CPU performance has been improved, while the black lightgun flash is now hidden for a cleaner experience with modern lightguns.
In-game volume handling has been corrected, and a new volume adjustment and boost slider has been added.
TeknoAGX also had a crash caused by out-of-bounds memory reads. That issue has now been fixed, improving overall stability as development continues.
Sega Racing Classic
A compatibility issue affecting Nvidia GPUs has been corrected in Sega Racing Classic.
The Ark keeps growing
Every new title that starts running exposes another part of the original hardware.
A timing assumption that worked for one game may break another. A control path that seemed complete suddenly meets a different cabinet. Audio hardware reveals another missing behavior. A renderer that looks correct in one title encounters something completely different in the next.
That is why adding emulation support is only the beginning.
The games listed above are not being distributed by TeknoParrot. They are titles that the emulator is now able to work with as preservation and hardware emulation continue.
And there is still a lot of unexplored hardware aboard.
More systems, more emulated games, and next shipment arrives on Friday.
