[Goo Engine] Goo Engine 4.4 is HERE!

12/29/25 Patch release! Fixes a displacement node that broke in the last update and should* fix AMD GPU crashes. Thanks again to community members for flagging bugs and testing these patches out! Get the new update at the link same link below.

12/22/25 Patch release! Small bug fixes, including the fix for a bug that was preventing the bumpmap node from working. The update is now live at the link below. Thanks as always to our community members for logging their bugs!

A quick note for our Mac and Linux users: We see your comments and requests for compatible versions for Mac and Linux. Currently, we don't have access to any machines that are running Linux, or any M-series Macs to develop and test Goo Engine builds on. So for now, development for those OS have stalled. For Mac users, we have Goo Engine 4.1.1 on Mac M1 and M2.

The updates just keep coming!

Christmas has come early for our Patrons - we’ve updated Goo Engine to be compatible with Blender 4.4! All your favorite Goo Engine features can now be used in tandem with Blender 4.4, which introduced Action Slots, updated VSE interface, and geonodes improvements to the main build.

This new version also features a splash screen with a beautiful (and entirely 3D) forest from an upcoming project! This short is unlike anything we've ever made, and can't wait to share it with you soon.

Goo Engine 4.4 is still considered “experimental”, so be sure to join the Discord if you haven’t already and report any bugs or problems you encounter while using it. If you’re using any of our custom rigs (Yin, Yang, Emily, or Amethyst), we recommend you stay using Goo Engine 4.3.21 while we work on updating the rigs.

Speaking of Discord, did you know that we hold exclusive streams for our Patrons every month on our Discord server? Next Thursday, December 18th at 8PM CST, one of the developers behind our Goo Engine patches will be answering your questions about creating VFX, custom shaders, or building and implementing the best workflow for your pipeline. Cody is an absolute wizard behind the scenes of the studio, so it’s a stream you DON’T wanna miss.

DOWNLOAD GOO ENGINE 4.4 NOW!

Thanks again for supporting the development of Goo Engine! Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and subscribed on YouTube so you don’t miss anything coming up!

what blender is it support? can it run normally on Blender 2.9?

This is a fork of Blender 4.4, not an addon. You don't need anything additional to run Goo Engine, but if you're used to Blender 2.9, things will probably look very different. If you're not familiar with Goo Engine, you can watch this video to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBdvcP8WhX8

I see the note about linux, glad that you are considering looking into it in the future. Please keep it in mind, I would be great if this could work. Even if it wasn't for every version - it would still be sweet to have at least major versions working on linux. I tried to build yesterday, got to a point when I had executable but it failed to run with segmenation fault... So no luck.

For the github branch the LFS is exceeded so can't build from source :(

Hi Goo, I'm new with Goo engine and wonder how to build a shader with Screenspace node? I have tried to rebuild what you have shown in the key feature video, but it still doesn't work, not showing the Scene color. Is there a post or video talk more clearly about this?

Yes! Make sure the Scene's "refraction" setting is turned on, as well! As well as the material's "refraction" setting! Hopefully that helps.

I know it's thinking about the next meal while your current dish is on your plate, but I can't wait until we're at Goo Engine 4.5 with full Vulkan support. I wanna ditch Open GL so bad.
