Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven Content Poll

Continuing with our evil character poll, which of these characters do you like the best?

1. Walter Pruitt: 34, White, Male

Physical description: Five foot ten, pudgy, salt and pepper stubble, a scar through his left eyebrow that splits it into two uneven halves. He dresses plainly so no one notices him.

Demeanor: He's quiet and attentive, listens more than he talks, asks good follow-up questions, and rarely volunteers an opinion unless asked directly.

True nature: A former hostage negotiator who catalogs everyone's weaknesses. He holds onto confessions, debts, and regrets, and waits until the information is useful to him.

Main motivation: He does not want power for what it gets him. He wants to watch people break. The group is a slow experiment to him. When people die because of choices he engineered, In their death, he feels a sense of pride.

2. Renata Vasquez: 29, Latina, Female

Physical description: Five feet two, dark hair kept in a single braid. She has a chipped front tooth she covers by not smiling with her mouth open. Her nails are bitten down to nothing. She wears form-fitting clothes but only because she's been grabbed by zombies and wants to prevent it in the future.

Demeanor: She comes off as honest and kind. She remembers small details about people and checks in with everyone.

True nature: A former pharmaceutical sales rep who treats relationships as inventory. She tracks who owes her gratitude or loyalty and spends it carefully.

Main motivation: She needs to be loved more than she needs anything else. Every kindness she performs is a hook. When someone's loyalty to her outweighs their loyalty to the group, she considers it a personal victory. If she recognizes that someone is more liked than her in a group, she gets rid of them.

3. Gerald Pritchard: 41, Black, Male

Physical description: Tall with a slight stoop, gray at the temples. Dresses stylishly.

Demeanor: He comes off as a big personality who compliments everyone.

True nature: A former teacher who manipulated most of his students until he was finally fired. He knows how to debate and turn people's opinions without them knowing.

Main motivation: He believes suffering is instructive, and he has appointed himself the one who administers it. He will steer the group into losses he considers necessary lessons, and he genuinely believes he is doing them a mercy.

4. Priya Chandran: 26, South Asian, Female

Physical description: Five foot six, sharp collarbones, and dark hair cut in a blunt bob. She still lines her eyes most mornings with whatever makeup she has left, though the rest of her clothes have gone practical and worn.

Demeanor: Funny, generous with compliments, quick to publicly defend people.

True nature: A former social media influencer who understands how to shape a room's opinion without seeming to try. She never criticizes anyone directly. She asks a question, repeats a rumor she made up, and lets someone else draw the conclusion she wanted.

Main motivation: She built her old life on being watched and adored, and the loss of that audience has curdled into something vicious. She does not just want influence over the group; she wants to see how far she can turn people against each other for her own entertainment.

5. Fletcher Castille: 37, Black, Male

Physical description: He is thick through the chest and shoulders, still wears a collared shirt most days, and keeps a straight razor shave sharp.

Demeanor: He is funny and friendly, and most people are drawn to him because he compliments them.

True nature: He's a former defense attorney but tells people he worked as a non-profit lawyer. Lying comes easy to him, and he enjoys it. He plays a game where he tells lies to see if he can remember all of them.

Main motivation: He spent his career getting guilty people out of consequences and genuinely has no morals. He would kill someone over a candy bar if you wanted it. He sees good and bad as words in a dictionary that have no meaning.

6. Opal Denholm: 45, White, Female

Physical description: Her hair is silver at the temples and cut in a sharp line just above her shoulders. She wears a blazer over a plain shirt, but often keeps a memento she wears from her victims.

Demeanor: She is warm, caring, and motherly. People say she doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

True nature: She is a former tabloid writer, but she tells people that she was a librarian. She loves to gather dirt on people, but once they figure her out, she has to get rid of them.

Main motivation: She has decided, with total conviction, that some people in the group are not worth saving, and she is quietly arranging circumstances so that those people die in ways that look like accidents or bad luck.

Opal, by far.

Gerald seems the most interesting to me, I've always been drawn to (although don't necessarily agree with) the idea that suffering is/can be instructive, and in this sort of setting it can create some really interesting scenarios, conflicts, and hopefully offer great player choice. Renata also seems really interesting, we haven't quite har a character that obsessed with being liked, and it would be really fascinating to see how high empathy characters in the party or high persuasion characters in the party perceive Renata. Renata also offers some more darker and insidous forms of manipulation imo, particularly of the romantic/flirtatious type.

It will be so infatuating to see our first social media influencer on this game. From what I know of social media influencer is not a specific profession we can choose from so this will be interesting especially her being messy.

Please for the love of god do not pick Walter. Opal Denholm seems the most narratively interesting. Ugh, I hate that we are going the Tom route again by having a saboteur in the group.

Yeah I kinda agree. Hopefully this time we don't get forced into an unavoidable betrayal moment

Can't say any of these strike me too strongly, but I like the idea of a hostage negotiator. A fella going from a position of justice and saving others. Worn down by the world he's now in. Before he dealt with evil case by case. Now he's dealing with the evils of man everywhere.

I like Pritchard for the philosophical bent of his motivation, which is compounded for me with his affinity for debate and teaching history. What he does is wrong, of course, but him genuinely trying to mold the group to better in spite of his immorality is also a draw for me, especially in a survival situation where so many are willing to compromise their morals. I could see a figure like Pritchard spinning his actions to someone and talking them over to his way of thinking where I don’t know that many other of these entries could.

A lot of evil people in the real world are very much out for themselves and their own survival rather then wanting to see people suffer and die for whatever reasons and motivations they may have for that. Instead many prefer to take what they need and keep what they want with people being kept around as tools and resources which allow them to stay alive which usually means that if all goes well few will ever realize their true objectives and morals until the moment that person needs to sacrifice or fight for something at which point they will take all that they have been given and run caring little about others and their lives or the morals of their actions keeping only what people and items are useful and valuable to themselves as such its a hard choice between 2 4 and 5

Renata is the most interesting to me because she seems like she has the potential to be sympathetic and possibly redeemed.

Fletcher, because I want to romance him 😅
