Games by JimD Newsletter – Game Updates, Hospital visit

Welcome to my 105th newsletter! It's been a rough month. As you may know, I was in the hospital for eight days towards the end of June. I had some chest pain for a day and went to the hospital to find out that I had pneumonia. Luckily, I found out early, but they kept me in to give me oxygen and antibiotics. Since then, I've been home and getting some work done, but it's been a slow process.

Throughout this month, I've caught up on most of the things that were behind, though my zombie outbreak novel is lagging a chapter. I will get caught up by the end of the month. I haven't gotten much feedback on it, so please let me know if this type of content interests you.

In this newsletter, I will review my development plans, as I do every month. Let's get started.

Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven, Part 4

The free update is now at 58,000 words, and I have extended it by 10,000 words so far this month. Most of the content I have added fixes bugs or adds to parts you may have already seen. For example, I have fixed character creation with extra skill and attribute points. I have also fixed a few continuity errors.

My next step is to continue the teenager storyline in chapter 17. I should be able to make a significant addition to that part, although I'm running out of time for the next beta update. After that, I had planned to finish chapter 17 but would rather set up a poll for my patrons to decide the next section for me to write.

The commissioned artwork for Fern and her wolf should be finished by the end of the month. After this commission is done, Reverend Church is up next. Do you have any suggestions on what I should include in his artwork?

Finally, I want to talk about an “evil character.” I have already run several polls about this, and I'm hoping to do more next month. This will most likely be a character I add in Part 5. So far, you have voted that the character will be manipulative and charismatic and either someone from the group or from your past. That's a good starting point, but there's still a lot to decide together about this character.

Zombie Exodus: Stronghold

Stronghold is up to 356,000 words, 20,000 more than last month. I'm currently finishing chapter 12, in which you continue your race towards Zone 3 to meet with Lysander Cross and find a cure for the Zeta virus infection. You just escaped an apartment building filled with the infected, and you're being chased by Mendoza and his commandos, while the zombie horde continues to fill Stronghold.

Over the next few chapters, the proverbial plot continues to thicken. We are probably 65% through the story, and I'm still aiming for about 500,000 words. I'm really hoping to have this done by the end of the year or at least have something finished by early next year for testing and editing.

That's all for this month. Thank you again for all your support and patience!

I'm glad you're feeling better. I got a suggestion for the Villain: It could be a Alex Mercer type of villain. In the way of him being a special infected (evil in the way of already being a selfish person, and then taking advantage of his current circunstances). Maybe he could be the patient zero? That was being experimented on. They probably can blend into infected herds without being noticed by the zeds... and act like the TWD Whispers. This would be something they could easily hide from the other people like the protagonist/MC, and also take advantage of factions. Also another thing, Zombie Exodus its inevitable due their migration for food. But what if this villain took advantage of his special mutation, and directed the herds/manipulated them in the direction of factions? If he was being experimented on, then this could be a way to take revenge, just like Alex Mercer twisted mind did, wanting to rule the world, seeing himself as a evolution. This would also explain, how the Remnants of the US Armed Forces got a good portion of them wiped out in the epilogue of the original Zombie Exodus game, due the sudden movement of hordes upon them, so they got surprise overrun. This also could add implications for the scientist/cure path, since we studying the virus would make us the arch enemy of this villain. I think theres have been talk of us also being able to manipulate the virus so we could control the hordes? We probably could nullify Zombie Exodus with this or take advantage of it as well.

I'm glad you're feeling better Jim I'm not sure if you're the religious sort but I've been praying for you during that time. Now as for the antagonist for part 5 if they're from our MC's past if the antagonist is a man why not make him the nephew's father who has never made an appearance (for those who are doing the nephew challenge) and if the antagonist is a woman why not a bad (evil) cop who controls a pure merciless raider gang with dogs (could make a possible good dog/cat fight for the pet challenge) anyway again I'm glad you're feeling better Jim and sorry for bothering 👍 ☺ ♥

Negan type villain sounds cool. Something like the Whisperers would be cool too tho I understand if itd feel derivative.

Having us lose control to the delusion (forgot the name) and developing an evil personality that we see as an outside view that we ( Player Character) would see as someone else would be amazing but I have no clue how it would make sense.

Glad you're feeling better Jim! For Church's artwork, I think the obvious additions would be a Bible and a gold crucifix around his neck or tied around his wrist. I can see him having various rings on his hand. When I pictured Reverend Church, I pictured him as a portly man with greying 5 o'clock shadow and balding.
