Making Malice in Wonderland
Hi! I'm the one-person team behind Malice in Wonderland, an 18+ open-world RPG that I've been building in the hours around my day job, and this page is where it goes from a private obsession to a public one.
Here's the itch I couldn't scratch as a player: adult games are almost always corridors. A menu, a scene, a menu, a scene. I kept wishing for one that played like an actual RPG. A world you wander, characters you find rather than get handed, stories that happen because you went somewhere weird. So I decided to build it. Seven-plus years as a professional software developer turned out to be a decent head start. Game development itself I'm learning the honest way, one mistake at a time.
The game is set in Wonderland, an original world that borrows only its name and its taste for beautiful nonsense. You play as a woman with no name but the one you give her, exploring a place where logic is optional and the anthropomorphic locals are friendly. Very friendly. The tone is lighthearted and shameless. Every character is an adult, and so is everything they get up to.
What exists right now is a vertical slice: short on content, deliberately, but with nearly all of the final game's systems already working. I wanted the foundation judged, not a mockup. It releases here soon, and the free version will be the full game. Patrons get the character customization system unlocked, plus dev logs, previews, and access to the discord channel.
Fair warning about the road ahead: I'm one person with a day job (plus a very talented animator handling the animations), so updates ship when they're ready, not on a calendar. What I can promise is that you'll always see what I'm working on and that if support ever grows enough to replace that day job, Malice in Wonderland becomes my full-time job and everything accelerates.
The release post is coming shortly. Until then: welcome. Join for free to catch it the moment it drops. 🐇
