🥔 When to Harvest Potatoes — My Farm Guide to Perfect Timing & Better Storage

If you watched Sunday’s video, you know we had a LOT going on around the farm — loofahs, melons, potatoes… and, as usual, a few surprises along the way. 😂🌱

So I thought this would be the perfect week to add another printable to our gardening library.

When exactly should you harvest your potatoes? 🥔

It sounds simple, but digging too early can mean smaller potatoes and delicate skins, while knowing when to wait can make a big difference — especially if you want potatoes that will store well.

In this guide, I’ve put together the things I look for when deciding whether it’s finally time to start digging:

🥔 What the foliage can tell you
🥔 How to check whether the potato skin has “set”
🥔 When to dig a test plant
🥔 Raised beds vs. growing in the ground
🥔 How I harvest without damaging the potatoes
🥔 Curing and storage after harvest
🥔 A few of my own tips from around the farm

And if you haven’t watched Sunday’s loofah, melon & potato video yet, this printable makes a great companion to it. You can see what we've been growing and how this crazy summer garden is actually turning out.

I really love making these guides because you can save them, print them, stick them in your gardening binder, and pull them back out when you need them next season. ❤️

Enjoy this one — and try not to get too impatient and start digging just because you want to see what's hiding under there. 😂🥔

Love,
Katy ❤️🌱

P.S. There’s plenty more happening around the farm this week... including a certain four-legged garden visitor who apparently thinks we planted everything just for him. 😂🐰
