I have never actually commented to your Patreon before and while I wish it was just to tell you what a banger this video is (it is, ya did it again), but actually I come with a message. You gotta get your hands on Season 1 of US version of The Mole, originally aired in 2001. Watching this video constantly reminded me of it, specifically how reality television is terminally trying to recapture the increasingly vanishing concept of a “normal person.” If that doesn’t whet your appetite, the challenges are very well designed and spiritually similar to the purported goal of the Beast and his Game: actually getting people to engage in betraying each other interestingly. I’m not saying to make a video about it, but you gotta watch it. It’ll dig into your brain and make you think in a very over the top way. It’s my favorite season of reality TV for structural and temporal reasons as much as anything that happens on the actual TV. Also host Anderson Cooper wears a leather jacket. That’s the image I’ll leave you with as I go back to lurking and enjoying your high quality content.

I'm a little disappointed to discover that none of the contestants returning from last year turned out to be my favorite contestant, the most developed character in the history of Beast Games: Chill Boy. Where is my sweet, sweet Chill Boy?

My criteria for whether beast games are good or not would be way simpler. If it did not contain massive piles of money as props in just about every scene (at least from the ones you've shown), all over the place, instead it had just one prize at the end that isn't really in sight until you hold it, would the experience be any different for anyone? The complete void where substance was supposed to be seems to not matter to anyone at all, and people get on the show because they know it's all about the dough, and they are reminded about that all the time. They will overdramatize because it was in the script, they will strip naked, bring in their family, expose themselves, for money, in situations where it makes no sense for them to do so. The strong emphasis on money, and basically showering people with money at every turn is possibly the cheapest gimmick you can ever come up with, and for what it's worth, the ONLY gimmick Mr. Beast seems capable of coming up with. With some of the reality show classics this tries to rip off, which I also do not enjoy, you can at least say that there's a big prize, be it a million dollars or whatever, at the end, for whoever navigates the intricacies of the game the best, along with the suspense and cheering for your favourite runner. Everyone else is a proper loser, who has lost a substantial amount of valuable stuff - time, dignity, privacy at the very least. It's a prize, it's a big one, and when you get there, it's probably worth it. But here, there's just so many easy ways out of the show, where you almost end up better off than the guy who wins, and most definitely better off than the guy who almost won. Maybe not strictly in the numbers, but if you factor in not taking part in the remainder of the show, definitely. Like the "self-sacrifice" after you've acquired money in the last round. As an extension to your point about not caring about any of the people, as in their personalities, the fact that there's plenty of money to go around and the distribution of it is just so random, it kind of also takes away the suspense of who wins, because it just matters so little. Getting in and leaving immediately in the very first round with whatever is offered seems like the smartest way to actually play the game. You have no opportunity to make a fool of yourself, you largely keep your privacy and avoid exposure, remain one of the hundreds of largely nameless people, and you get paid to do it. If you're in it for the money, and why else would you even consider doing that, that's a solid win. If it didn't have that, it wouldn't be worth squat, either for playing it, or watching it. But the very presence of the piles of money everywhere, and how it's dispensed and treated, along with the fact that it's mostly kids that watch Mr Beast, makes me wonder how that shapes their world view, when they become adults. It's all about the shortcuts, quick fixes, gambling and straight up cheating as a means to not progress in the game, which here is definitely more of a pointless side effect, but basically getting a pile of money bigger than the other people every time you do. Kind of strange image to show to people who probably don't understand why it's fundamentally the wrong way to live your life overall, and definitely a sneaky way to bring them onboard to moral relativism before they even learn about what it is. Anyway, thanks for the digest. I wouldn't have known a single thing about this stinking swamp otherwise.

It seems like Beast is trying to make a social/psychological puzzle gameshow but doesn't understand either and ends up focusing too hard on the aesthetics of everything. He (and everyone) needs to watch the Korean gameshow The Genius which kinda perfected the type of games he's going for. Probably the best reality show out there.

Not sure if I should "ra ra" or "not this time honey," because keeping island boy and the bribe taker could be fine (interesting, even) if only people were incentivized to actually play the game.
