Automatically a great video since it brings up Kamalas “it was a debate” moment, I lose my mind all over again everytime that comes up I can’t believe that wasnt more damning to the rest of her political career

I was trying to put together what makes him so uncomfortable to watch. On my second viewing of your video, I put together that watching his show resembles being on the receiving end of verbal abuse. He’s looking into the camera and using second person as he berates so it’s a hell of a PoV.

I watched parts 1 and 2, and now you've posted the final draft. Should I just switch to the final-draft video and start at part 3, or have you significantly changed anything before then?

The ending of this video has been stuck in my head for a little while, I feel like I’m not getting the connection between the last few lines and the Bill Maher quote. That might be just me though. The video felt way shorter than it was, and it never felt like you ran out of interesting things to say :) good stuff so far

The slip Maher has at 58:17, in which he almost says “better treated their than in their own countries” says a lot about how he views Israel. He does not understand that many kinds of people live there- that there are Arab Jews just as there are European Jews, that Muslims, Jews, and Christians all exist within Jerusalem. He does not see the Arab people who were born and have lived there for ages and ages as belonging in Israel.

I used to listen to Maher back in the Politically Incorrect days and was excited to see this covered. I think you really correctly diagnosed what's wrong with his brain and how exactly he misses the point. One nit: the aside ragging Bill for talking about stuff from 10+ years ago seemed off when a lot of the video is itself doing the same thing

I'll be honest, at the beginning of the video I wondered how a bill maher analysis would be any different, at this point, than a video on peterson, shapiro, or any other conservative pundit. But I had indeed forgotten that the dude still considers himself a leftist with democratic and pro-climate ideas, who supported kamala in 2024. The reason this video's good is that maher is fucking WEIRD. Placed in the middle of two fires, the conservatives who hate him for some of his ideas, and the "woke" he so hates, he's able to create an audience who's only interested in maher as maher. Because there's no other ideological idea that is coherent with his, that isn't just "bill maher's idea". Again, weeeeird.

I like how even the incredibly forced claque at Bill Maher's shows often seems actively confused at whether they should even try to laugh at some of his jokes. This man may have mastered insufferability.

Great video. 1) A critique: in the Steven Crowder bit, it feels a bit odd that you call the event he's at a Democratic convention, which I think implies DNC. You can hear from the audio left in that he's at the Women's March, which I think most people will remember by name. 2) I was really excited when you pulled the Mr. Beast goo homunculus. I saw that at Target and have been living with the knowledge that it's a real product that exists.

there's such a great critique of land acknowledgement to be had, but unfortunately for Maher, you have to come at it from a position of being even more woke. like yes it's nice to acknowledge the historical habitation of indigenous people in a particular region but...are we gonna give that land back? Or do anything to assist indigenous communities living there now? No? Okay well, thanks for doing the bare minimum, I guess. To answer the question in the video of who does a land acknowledgement deter, the answer is: people like Bill Maher. People who get the ick when they have to think about American (and Canadian) history in too much detail. I sure would love to see your piece on why you think Kamala lost if you can save it from the cutting room floor though!

Bill Maher believes himself so absolutely enlightened that he fails to question beyond what proves his preconceived ideas. Confirmation bias is his best friend. It's wild to hear him discuss dinner with trump, confidently point out that trump was out of character, and conclude that the entire media apparatus slants against trump. He either failed to entertain the idea that trump, a con man, was telling Maher what Maher wanted to hear, or he thought about it and confidently assumed he was "too smart" for the con. he does it with netanyahu, too. Maher is easy to sway as long as you tell him what he wants to hear.

I feel like a lot of the time Bill just exudes this “Zen Fascism” (if you’re familiar with the phrase) attitude. He constantly reminds his audience that he is in fact always the most fair, honest, and compassionate person, which is then immediately followed with a completely contradicting message. It’s like the personal brand he’s created is directly fighting with his cultural instinct to give into this “Zen Fascism” where everything is fucked up but you might as well join the party and take advantage of it all, personally absolving him in the process. To be clear, I am not calling Bill a fascist, this is just what his attitude reminds me the most of.

This is so good. And I love that Maher chose a random Love is Blind clip to illustrate wokeness ruining relationships, lol. That woman chose not to marry the stranger because 1) he was Christian but refused to talk about politics or religion with her, and 2) they both lived in Minneapolis and he had virtually no understanding of what BLM even was. Real Time's really scraping the bottom of the barrel for these examples. 🙂‍↔️

i adore this video and absolutely think you should be proud enough in it to release it publicly on Big Joel. i enjoy the lighter, more humorous tone of your writing in this one, kind of provides a breath of fresh air after the comparatively very dark subject matter of your previous video (the one about kanye west, not that i didn't love that video too). the only thing i miss about your previous videos that i kind of wish was in your more recent work was the classical music underneath your narration lol, but that's literally just an aesthetic preference
