Two guests this episode! First we talk to Lily Lynch in Zagreb, editor of The Balkanist about the recent crisis in Macedonia where protesters stormed parliament—and the tangled history of Macedonians, ethnic Albanians & their unfriendly neighbors...and a granular look at the local politics vs the western media's line that Macedonia's problems are the fault of "Russian meddling"...

What a great podcast. Thanks guys for putting in the work and bringing us such good quality material.
Fun Fact: Johannes Hahn and Sebastian Kurz are not only both Austrians, but also from the same party (ÖVP)
Did anyone find the article in The Balkanist about journalistic stereotypes of the people in the region? I looked for a bit, but couldn't find it.
I think I found it! <a href="http://balkanist.net/how-to-write-about-the-balkans/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://balkanist.net/how-to-write-about-the-balkans/</a>
Having two guests for a 2-hour long show is much needed indeed. But I kind of miss the tour de news that John did previously. Small complain, the show overall was very good. Also the guests' audio quality was better, so it makes it more pleasant to listen to, especially over such lengths.
Hi John, i remember u calling nuclear shield "bullshit" in ur book. Do u still agree with ur stand or have u changed them in response to new developments. I am asking this coz this news in WSJ caught my eye <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/thaad-missile-defense-system-is-up-and-running-in-south-korea-1493685507?mod=e2tw" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.wsj.com/articles/thaad-missile-defense-system-is-up-and-running-in-south-korea-1493685507?mod=e2tw</a>
It's a good question. This is one area where technology can shift decisively and suddenly. Maybe that's happened. But we would have to find somebody who really knows their stuff to talk about it. If you know anybody, please send us their name.
Great episode with great guests
More dog sounds from Mark next week, please. Kidding, but more Eastern Europe experts would be great...
I am not kidding, more dog sounds please :)
Has the podcast rss feed stopped working?
It usually updates a little later than the patreon… don't know why.
