From what's been stated, I think this is a good middle ground, helps maintain Merideth's agency as well.

I haven't finished the game yet, so I don't know what the endings are like, but when the choice was announced, I immediately assumed the worst. I'm jaded enough to assume that any given hentai story can take that turn for the worse, basically. From the sounds of it, the Lust route isn't nearly as bad as I presumed, so the reaction is a bit of a surprise. If I had to guess, I'd say part of the problem comes from communication. "Lust" and "Passion" are used almost synonymously. I don't think they give much idea of what to expect. The way they were described on the Patreon post kind of made it sound like Lust route was supposed to be the "real" one, more loyal to the characterization, and that the Passion route was sterilized. I don't know what the intent was, of course, but that's how I read it. That sort of thing could have driven people to make the wrong choice for them, not guessing that you'd go outside the established range of things. My point being, clearer labels might have been helpful. Obviously, you don't want to spoil your story, but people can't make a choice if they don't understand it. Just labeling them as "The Normal Route" and "The Route with Mild NTR" might have saved a lot of bother. I hope I don't come off too rude, here. It's clear that you were caught off-guard and take this seriously. I respect that (and, needless to say, I'm a big fan of your work). The way things went, I found the choice to be a little worrying, but I wouldn't have chosen the Lust option to begin with, so it's no skin off my nose. I'm just saying that the plan of clear communication with your audience is often a reliable one.

If a restaurant changes the flavor of its dishes simply because a few vocal customers dislike the taste, it is truly on the verge of going out of business. This is because the majority of customers who enjoy the food—but rarely leave reviews—won't go out of their way to post a complaint; however, if you alter the flavor to cater to that small minority, those silent customers will simply switch—permanently—to a similar restaurant that maintains its original taste.

Hey, huge fan of your work, I've played damn near all your games, house chores or ZR1 being my personal favorites, but all of them are fantastic. I can't even fathom people threatening you over optional "NTR", even though imo that hardly counts since she was basically brainwashed, it's not like she did it of her own true volition. I would hate to see you have to compromise your artistic style over something so minor. Although you made a mention of Meredith overcoming his attempt with her own inner strength. I agree with that as a character writing choice, but not as a change due to pressure or harassment. I'll accept whatever choice you make but I hope it's one you want to make and not one you feel required to.

This is tragic; a division based solely on differing ideologies is a necessary act. Siren's games are among the most polished we've ever played, unlike other developers who spend years without a clear ending, releasing comedic characters, dragging out the plot, and raising development funds. However, creators confined to a single game genre struggle to explore the game's inherent charm. Even the most skilled artist will feel inadequate. Siren made a clear and bold choice, a fact we understand. And Final, this threatening rhetoric must stop. We only welcome rational discussion.

I hope you've been okay these past few days. I don't like NTR myself and I did have a couple issues with certain things (not the NTR, mostly Meredith) in the Lust path, but I personally enjoyed what I played through. No matter how upset the content made people feel, and honestly I suspect many made themselves more upset than the game did, it doesn't justify the severe aggression you received. Unfortunately, I'm not as happy with this news. I fully respect and support your decision, and I do appreciate some of the changes coming, I just wish it had come about differently. It still feels like you were bullied into changing your vision to appease people's demands rather than in response to criticism, and it doesn't sit right with me, neither as a consumer nor a fellow creative. I don't want to change your mind. If this is what you want to do I support that completely, but I wanted to let you know that there are people who did receive and appreciate your original vision for the story. I hope some day your primary audience becomes a little more tolerant, open-minded, and to those who had an extreme response, mature. If I can add my feedback, I agree with the takes on Meredith's lacking agency. She's gentle and warm, but surprisingly strong-willed. I wouldn't describe the brainwashing as sudden, or a betrayal of expectations, I was fully expecting something of the sort to happen to at least one of the love interests with all the foreshadowing. But Norman did manipulate her too easily, in comparison to how much effort and time it takes for MC to make her open up to intimacy. However, I think having Norman immediately fail will actually weaken the story. He doesn't have enough presence in the game to threaten the player, and this will make him look outright silly in my opinion, especially with the name joke and his backstory, trivializing his and the zombie virus' role as threatening antagonistic forces. If possible, I hope for a way to give MC more agency as the "hero" of the story and the battle by saving Meredith directly, or having Meredith come to his aid instead. I think that could reinforce the themes of true love more.

Might be my experience with indie games, but i think this is the first time that i heard about parts of an ending getting completely removed. While developing a game its normal to remove/add stuff, but with a complete full game ? Really weird. You can expect that sort of thing happening in like gacha/mobile games, but this is like removing scenes from one of the endings of hollow knight after release. Authors can do whatever they wish with their stories obviously, but if they add a "controversial" topic, then that might have consequences. Especially if said author hasn't tackled said topic in previous works. So yeah, in an ideal world community reaction to these types of topics should be always kind and say "hey great stuff but i don't like this part". Others might not have an issue with that. Now, threatening the developers of a small game like they were criminals...yeah i don't get that mentality. Keep going strong siren and thank you for your work :)

Don't let others sway your creative vision. I don't think there's anything wrong with this update, and I hope you'll explore more creative choices like this in the future. If there is a ZR3 down the line, I'd even love to see the "Pure" and "Corrupt" paths available right from the start of the story. Keep it up — you're a fantastic artist!

I have always highly appreciated and loved the quality of your game works, yet the core principles of this series should not be altered casually. I fully respect your right to stick to your own creative vision. However, if you plan to add controversial themes in the future, it would be better to announce this at the early development stage. This way, audiences can clearly figure out whether the game fits their preferences, instead of you suddenly shifting the consistent style of the series out of the blue, which is really hard for long-time fans to accept. Besides, I’d like to ask whether the ongoing poll is only available for Patreon supporters. I believe every player who has purchased the base game deserves the right to vote, and I sincerely hope you can adjust the voting eligibility restrictions.

Dear Siren, hope you can see this message. I have been your loyal fan for a long time and bought Zombie Retreat 2 because I trusted you deeply, yet you have broken my trust this time. Both the previous work and this game stick to pure romance without any NTR content, which is exactly what we love about your series. You are free to add NTR elements in your brand-new games in the future, but please don’t let your long-term fans who love the pure romance setting down. I personally do not like NTR but it's your game and they are really good so as long as NTR r*pe and things like that are not forced and we are given an option. That puts you head and shoulders over so many devs. keep up the great work

Isn't the point of the Lust version similar to what happens when Meredith gets caught 3x by Zombies and gives in to her naughtiest desires? Everyone is free to voice their opinion but personally, I don't have an issue with how the latest update turned out as IT IS YOUR GAME. From my perspective as a player, I also would like to see what happens when things go wrong--and it's completely up to the player to choose this or go the other way depending on what they prefer. Isn't this what you originally had in mind when you added the option?

I don't know why people got so upset with an optional ntr choice that can be avoided me personally I didn't mind it I felt like the way the world was set up leaned into the fact that anything could go wrong at any moment I'm not that big a fan of NTR but I did not mind it whatsoever and its your game and your vision and whatever you decide to do in the future I will still support you all the way! if you have plans for ZR3 I will just give this suggestion that I feel like adding choices could spice things up in the game to add more variety. I was watching the controversy from afar and wanted to comment and now seems like a good time sorry if it is too long. First of all you deserve non of the too agressive comments and other things. There is no place for them for a game and developer such as yourself who delivered perfectly until now. That being said I am on the more shocked side of people on this one. Even with the warnings I was expecting maybe a death or more gruesome scenes, a scene like that with Meredith didn't even cross my mind. All of your games have pretty similar content so I wasn't expecting that and I think you are kinda angry with the people who reacted like they did to the "upsetting content" but I wanna point out a few things: -Meredith is the main interest of the game. There were faint glimpses of the kinda content from the last update in your previous games but non of them were with one of the main girls nor were they like this. -It was too sudden and didn't really have an explanation. Like there was no zombie touch or anything. Just a kiss and Meredith was a different woman. It made it feel like Meredith had no agency of her own and was just willing to go to the arms of any man who wanted her. Like her love was cheap if that is the right word for it. Mind you she is the main interest of the game. -People are familiar with your games and are in a comfort zone when playing it. It was kinda out of left field and it makes people more upset when they encounter something they don't want when they least expect it. In both Zombie Retreat games even tho world is overrun with said zombies the woman we are with are safe, that is what players are familiar with so even though a story like in the last update makes sense in the world of Zombie Retreat I think it makes it even more hurtful since the player is kinda like the "protector" in a sense. -It was not just the kiss. Meredith's personality completely did a 180 and she started to insult and humiliate the player so even tho the scene itself is quite tame in emotional sense it is a bit far for a game like this I think. -In these kind of games people have strong opinions about the theme in the last update so the name joke and everything is just funny in the broader sense but even the small victories of the villain upsets people who feel strongly about the subject. It would be another thing if he was just defeated without achieving anything at least in that department. -If you wanna add stakes and gravity to the games plot there are other ways to do it. It could have been an psychical threat or even a zombie threat. If you wanna explore themes like this specifically I would suggest doing it in a completely new game where it is quite clear from get go that things can go south. Maybe doing two different routes for each woman etc. or a game that just focuses on those themes. I would guess people would still react and wouldn't really want it but it would be better than throwing these themes in games no one would expect them. In the end it is your game so you are free to do whatever you want but I think you also kinda understand where people are coming from with the complaints and you are taking this route so thank you. Even your listening of the complaints and making changes puts you above pretty much every other game developer.

Now I've yet to really play this game as I've been waiting for it to be done, so I have little context beyond what I've seen people talk about regarding this. If people really are upset by an optional path including a touch of NTR by brainwashing, they need to actually grow a pair. From what I've seen it's something that gets defeated anyhow, but I think a bit of spice like this actually really increases my interest in the game, knowing it's not all some all's well experience. Maybe I'm just a bit too freaky, but the vanilla harem themes of your titles could do with some spice, which is why I was excited to see there was something 'dangerous' in the lust ending, and I'm slightly disappointed to see that it is getting cut. I hope that in the future experiences like this won't be the reason why you can't explore certain themes. If you do (and you probably would want to even if it's just for variety) make sure it's signposted well from the start I'd say, that could have probably tamed all of the negative responses. I was surprised and happy to hear this news. I grabbed the game for nine dollars the second you released it and played it immediately. Honestly, I really hate NTR. Playing through it left me feeling frustrated and even a little nauseous. I felt so discouraged at the time that I just didn’t want to say anything.But now, hearing this news, I feel genuinely happy. I really love this game and the characters, especially Meredith. I don't have much spare cash, but I still made the choice to spend nine dollars on your game. Your message makes me feel like it was totally worth it. You're a great author who actually listens to your players. Much love. Wishing you nothing but success in your work and happiness every single day.

I already posted this in the previous one, but I'll do so again: I don't think you need to change anything (Unless you really want to of course.) Your games are your stories, and I think it is wrong in principle that anyone should try to coerce you into having to change your vision. I can't speak for others, but I love your games and the interconnected world they inhabit because of your story-telling, and if someone or a group is going to bully their way into imposing their vision on you, it would be like "corrupting" your artisitc work (If that makes sense.) In my opinion, this is bullying and morally wrong.

I don't think expanding into NTR-related content would be a bad idea. For example, take ZR2 x House Chores. I'd really like to see the main character have scenes with Linda, but so far we only get to see her with someone else. It could also be interesting to add optional swinging or sharing content. Of course, it should remain completely optional so everyone can enjoy the game the way they prefer. Playing the same harem formula over and over can become repetitive after a while. Expanding the content a little would be a nice change of pace, as long as everything is based on mutual consent and nothing is forced. Personally, I'd still love to see Lucas be shared and the main character have scenes with Linda (from House Chores). Just my personal opinion.
