I call them "podcasts" but really, now that we're publishing them in video format, they're becoming mini climate-history/politics explainers, which I am really excited about. This history is not nearly well-known enough; but it is fascinating and essential to understanding where/who we are.
My guest, Richie Merzian, is a former Government negotiator at the Doha and Poland UNFCCC climate summits (so he's been inside the belly of the beast) and is now the Climate & Energy Director at the Australia Institute. He's also a lovely chap and it was really fun to take a trip back in time with him to discover how the Australian Government "earned" its famous Kyoto carryover credits; and in the process learn about domestic and international climate politics and why our Government has pissed off the entire world with all its bullshit.
We also talk about where we are heading in terms of climate targets and policy - touching on the so-called gas-led recovery, the technology investment roadmap, the debate between individual and collective climate action; and much more in between.
In short, there's tons of good stuff in here which I genuinely hope will help improve peoples' understanding. As always, if you find it helpful in that way please recommend the podcast to your friends and family!
A huge thanks to all of you, our Patrons, for making this work possible. It's been a full year now since we started publishing the podcasts to YouTube - this is the 10th video we've uploaded since the start of 2020 - and I think it's safe to say that the Juice Podcast has become a really great add-on to the HGA series, helping us to get into much more depth on the topics we cover in the main videos.
I'll take this opportunity to wish you all happy holidays, and a merry christmas if you celebrate it; with a special thought for all our Patrons in NSW who are bracing for what might be another lockdown; and of course all of you in the US and EU who are still doing it tough.
I won't wish you happy new year just YET, as I hope to be back with a little end of year video featuring some behind-the-scenes hilarity from this crazy year.

Gawd, my jaw is on the floor upon learning how fncked up and sh!tty the sh!tfnckery is among our so-called "leaders" in this world. That those in Oz are as corrupt as in the USA really discourages me. New laws are being proposed by the esafety commission to give the bureaucracy the power to delete and fine people posting online that they deem bullying. It won't be long before Dutton claims you're a bully and you start getting content pulled.

Geez I love the podcast. I can't tell you how often some of my family have dismissed my position on climate change because Im not university educated. Now I jyst point to the Juice HGAs / Aus Institute and some of the resources you list to demonstrate how fkd the government's action on climate change has been for decades. (Outside of the brief reprieve when Labor and Greens were setting ambitious targets & kicking at least some climate change goals.) Plus, as soon as I can afford it, I'll start donating regularly to the Aus Institute. Also ... totally loved the "pixels brought to you by NBN!" Have a superb celebration Juicy Team (& Richie) - I don't know how, but you keep getting better and better xo So glad I'm a patron :)

Great podcast, Giordano. I confronted my Federal member, Paul Fletcher, along with some kids from the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, prior to the last federal election. We challenged him on the Kyoto carry over credits and how they were reducing our already weak target of 26% to about 14%. He just used weasel words to deflect the uncomfortable questions which highlighted how poorly the LNP Coalition has performed. The AYCC kids were so disillusioned by Fletcher's cynical semantic tricks and double speak. Your podcast and the HGA explain the complexities and history brilliantly. Richie Merzian was an inspired choice for an interview. Excellent job, as usual. Congratulations to the whole Juice team.

Thanks Janette - I think he was there during the Gillard/Greens years so probably the best time to be working on Govt climate policy... But yes, still!
