ANTICHRIST - THE GREEK MEANING
I'm putting together a study on the use of "anti" in the Greek New Testament. Never is it used to mean against, but always "in place of," "for," "because" and such. I have catalogued every use of "anti" in the New Testament, as found below in both Koine Greek and in the 1611 AKJB. Also please find my pdf attached at the bottom.

Jesus Christ/God allows Satan space to deceive you in any worldly way possible. For some, that means he presents himself as . . against . . Christ (or in competition with) Christ. For example, overt Satanism . . Thelema (Aleister Crowley's religion) . . freemasonry . . yin-yan Eastern philosophy . . etc. For others, he presents himself "in sheep's clothing" as . . in place of . . Christ. Roman Catholicism and other hierarchical nominally "Christian" churches. This is why direct reference to, study of and spiritual connection to the Word is essential for your spirital survival. "My sheep know my voice" . . "the Word is written on our heart". Jesus LIVES NOW . . he is here now (through the Holy Spirit) with all believers. There is no one in his place and, even the devils know, Jesus has always reigned over Satan and has never been in competition with him.
Very true. Satan starts "other religions" to entice people, and perhaps cause so-called Christians to abandon their faith in favor of something more exotic and exciting. The biblical doctrine of Antichrist is different in that Antichrist does not start another religion; rather, he embraces and settles into Christianity, claiming affinity with all that is called Christian. He sets himself in place of Christ, cleverly appearing as Christ to those void of the Holy Ghost and lacking discernment. Conversely, "other religions," such as you mention, are not about emulating Christ; rather, they flatly deny him, teaching that Jesus and biblical Christianity are false. Ultimately, (and you make the point), Satan can do nothing without permission from God; case in point, Job.
The correct Koine Greek understanding of Antichrist is "in place of Christ," "a substitute for "Christ," "for Christ, meaning instead of Christ," etc. This is the consistent use of "anti" throughout the New Testament. If "against" was intended a different word would have been used. For example: Greek, "τίς ἐγκαλέσει κατὰ ἐκλεκτῶν Θεοῦ," 1611 AKJB "to the charge of Gods elect." "κατὰ" meaning "to the charge" or "against." The secondary meaning for "anti," in some cases, can be translated "against." However, we can see by its use in the 1611 AKJB that the intended meaning is "in place of," which inevitably means that one who sets themselves in place of Christ is against Christ. The former meaning establishes that antichrist deceives through duplicity by pretending to be one thing, while actually being another. The latter meaning offers no deception, which is inconsistent with the nature of Satan and his prime representative, antichrist. Thus, the 1611 AKJB rendering, "in place of," is preferred and helps us more readily identify "antichrist" as "a one who substitutes himself for Christ." And, this is consistent with the papal identity of antichrist.
Here's what Reformer John Bunyan, 1628-1688, wrote of the duplicity of Antichrist: “Antichrist is the adversary of Christ; and adversary really, a friend pretendedly: So then, antichrist is one that is against Christ; one that is for Christ, and one that is contrary to him: (And this is that mystery of iniquity (2 Thess. 2:7). Against him in deed; for him in word, and contrary to him in practice. Antichrist is so proud as to go before Christ; so humble as to pretend to come after him, and so audacious as to say that himself is he. Antichrist will cry up Christ; antichrist will cry down Christ: antichrist will proclaim that he himself is one above Christ. Antichrist is the man of sin, the son of perdition; a beast that hath two horns like a lamb, but speaks as a dragon (Rev 13:11).”48
