State of the Patreon
I know that since we recorded the bonus/test episode earlier this month, I have gotten quite a few new subscribers, although I'm not sure if they are all new or whether they were previous patrons who had dropped out due to the lack of content. Either way, I welcome you here whether you've been around for one day or several years. This Patreon has always been a way of helping me support myself while spending many hours doing this work, and I'm both proud and humbled to have your confidence.
More to the point, Jack and I recorded the first mainline episode in just about a year last night, and it should be posted within the next few days. It covers the collapse of the National Justice Party, which was largely due to petty bickering, a complete inability to run an organization (rather than produce shitposty podcasts), and partly due to one of the founding members having a mutually consensual threesome with his wife and their (female) friend.
So, you know, it's very old school IDSG content.
I've got plenty of other episodes in various stages of prep, and given that I have a new recording space that's going to make production much easier schedule-wise, we should be producing content on a very frequent basis moving forward. I'm planning to do a mix of smaller episodes on minor figures that have stuck in my craw over the years, alongside more polished episodes on more significant matters, and of course the occasional interview with people who are doing similar work. If you have suggestions for topics or figures, please post them below and I'll keep it in mind.
Our next bonus episode is planned to be on Oppenheimer, because 1) neither of us has seen it yet and 2) we both have an interest in that period of scientific and geopolitical history.
One last note is that I mentioned in the last bonus episode that I was considering doing regular group chats with Patrons. I'm thinking these will probably be something like an hour or two hangout, once or twice a month, with the audio available for patrons to listen to if they can't make the live recording. I'm still gauging interest, but I did get at least a couple of people express a strong desire for such a thing, so the next post will be a poll asking about what times people might be available. My plan for now is to make these accessible to anyone at any tier of support, but if it becomes too large I may have to restrict it to higher-tier supporters.
Speaking of which, I added three new layers of support. You get the same thing at each tier (at least for now) and you can always edit your pledge at any time, but it was suggested to me that some might find this easier than changing it manually, so there you go. If it becomes cumbersome for people I'll turn the higher tiers off, of course.
Please vote in the poll, if you're interested in the livestreams (or even if you're not), and please take care of yourselves, and each other.
