IDSG Bonus 45: Nuremberg (2025)

This is a bit of a weird one, as it turned out that after Jack and I saw Nuremberg (2025), we both had opinions but neither seemed to particularly want to talk much about them. It's a very meh movie overall, with a couple of good performances but mostly seems to be kind of Oscarbaity slop studios dump this time of year.

I watched Judgment of Nuremberg (1961) as part of my preparation here, and Jack also watched the 2000s TV movie covering the trial. Both are mentioned, neither is essential.

Anyway, in editing Jack decided to basically just keep a whole lot of our random chatter (i.e., us just being friends and hanging out over Skype) which means you get to hear us talk about beers of the US, UK, and Germany, as well as recent movies we've seen and how we feel about modern cinema in general. I know that means this is really mostly interesting to those who just like listening to Jack and I chat, but I figure if you're still hanging out in this Patreon that probably describes you just a little bit.

The Jacob Gellar video I mentioned towards the end is here. It's excellent and is a much better primer at understanding the actual events of the Nuremberg trials than either this film or the 1961 Spencer Tracy one.

If you like this kind of meandering chat, let me know and I'm sure we can produce more of them in the future. Thanks as always for your support, and apologies for the delay in this upload. Jack and I didn't know exactly how we wanted to put this one out, if at all. We're recording on A Scanner Darkly, book and film, this weekend, so you'll certainly get that one as another bonus episode before Christmas.

Okay, I’m commenting here because I just listened to the IDSG episode about Megyn Kelly and Bad Bunny and I don’t know where else to comment. As a Canadian, we do not want to be or enjoy being called “Americans”. Sometimes we’ll get it from people from other continents like, “but you’re from the Americas”. Yes, we are North American, but don’t you dare call us Americans. I can’t speak for Latin America. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Thanks for the meandering episode! Would you and Jack have any interest in watching/talking about Margarethe von Trotta's Hannah Arendt (2012)?
