IDSG Bonus 44: Mother Night
In this somewhat delayed bonus episode, Jack and I discuss Mother Night, but the 1962 book by Kurt Vonnegut, and the 1996 film starring Nick Nolte. NB: This is one of Jack's very favorite books -- which I didn't know when I suggested we do it -- so he goes through the entire plot of the novel over the course of the episode. I personally don't think you can really spoil Vonnegut's work -- the value of reading Vonnegut is rarely due to the details of the plot -- but it's probably something you should know. I do very much recommend reading the novel, as it's excellent, but the film you can probably skip, although it has its moments and it's interesting to see how Vonnegut's work very much does not lend itself to a post-Schindler Oscar bait picture.
Thank you so much to those who have increased their donation since the last episode, and to those who have joined anew. I don't do this for money, but every little bit helps. As I said in the last episode, I am now fully divorced and in a new space, which has dramatically changed my financial situation (and not for the better). Nonetheless, we're planning to try to record something every week moving forward, whether a bonus episode, a news roundup, or a mainline numbered episode, so if you have suggestions for material, please let one of us know.
Enjoy!
